We adore Prairie Moon Waldorf School! We searched high and low for a school that matches our values of holistic education - a program that enriches not just the mind academically but also nourishes the body and spirit. My both my 5 yr old (in EC) and my 3rd grader adore coming to school and have cultivated a deep love of learning at PMWS. My 3rd grader not only learns the basics of math, reading and science (she loves al 3), but also enjoys a wide variety of enriching extracurricular activities that encompass music theory, movement and games, lots of outdoor play, knitting and fiber skills, wax and clay sculpture, watercolor, pentatonic flute, singing, and is even becoming proficient in speaking Mandarin! The classrooms are warm and welcoming, the teachers are kind and loving, and the community is supportive and fun! We especially love the seasonal festivals. What a gem this school is for the Lawrence, Topeka and KC surrounding areas.
I love the early childhood program as an alternative to preschool/kindergarten. Teacher Gwen & teacher Kristy create a beautiful school container for 3-6 year olds to explore nature, experience rhythm and find magic in the little things. My kids love making their snack, especially Wednesday’s bread. I love how much they play outside at drop off and again at pick up. I also like the flexibility in the school schedule- my kids go part time, monday-Thursday from 8-12 and that’s currently perfect for our family. But they could go up to full time, Monday-Friday 8-5 if we needed that! To me, this is great a way to offer a childhood experience that is developmentally appropriate & nurturing by offering an abundance of predictability, nature and play.
My son has gone to school at Prairie Moon Early Childhood Center for three years now. He loves his teachers and is excited to go to school everyday. He sings beautiful songs, plays with his friends, and gets to play outside! He has a real understanding of the natural world and is learning to do his part to keep it safe and care for it and for others. It is a wonderful and enriching part of our lives.
