"Karen's Class"My kids started attending the center a few weeks ago, my youngest has been there since school started, but due to a scheduling conflict, I was forced to place the other two in the program as well. I have two well-behaved kids and they came home terrified on their 1st day. The center does offer outings on non-school days none of which my kids wanted to participate in because of their teacher. The 5th-grade class has the most turn around in the center, this is due to the teacher's "Karen" behavior.  I was approached by the teacher today at dismissal asking if i have issues with my daughters with attitudes. I proceeded to telling her my kids to speak up only when they think its not fair. My child told me that from how much she was raising her voice at her she spit in her face. I asked the teacher if this was true and she proceeded to raise her voice at me (I am an adult, not your student) facing the assistant director stating "You see I knew she was going to be an issue since the  1st day she showed up." She is rude to her students treats them as if they have no say, and treats the class as if it were an alternative school, and students not only mine do not feel comfortable. She stated that she did not care if I made a proper complaint. I advised her that with that attitude she would not win the kids over as they are scared of her because of her approach. We do not live in the 70-90 when certain behaviors on discipline were ok. We have built a generation of where the kid's voice matters and the rudeness and uncalled behavior from this teacher is a slap in the face for the organization that pays her salary. This center is funded by a Methodist church, and as a God-fearing child of God, I would have to say that these are not values that uphold a community center. Our Children should not feel left out, mistreated, or bullied in programs that are supposed to be there to assist the community. We parents often search for neighborhood resources, just because we are in 76105 doesn't mean that we don't want the best programs for our kids. They have good resources, food banks, events, and a great reading program. All these services sound great and speaking for myself my 1st grader loves her teacher Ms.Genesis as she is compassionate and caring, Ms.Valery in the front always kills you with kindness,Blanca is always making sure the kids are fed and the community has their essentials with her administering the foodbank portion. However, One bad apple can do a lot of damage, and it's unfair that this has been going on for a while with this teacher alone and no one says anything, because they don't know how to, they are scared to speak up, they don't have anywhere to leave their kids or simply don't believe their children. I don't have anyone personally that goes there I was sitting in the child's library on Lancaster avenue I watch the worker SWAT a little black girl's hand very aggressively then proceeded to see her grab another little black girl very aggressively I spoke up she let the little black go yeah pay attention and watch the people who are watching your children when you're not there I even called and wanted to report it they can't find the manager and I do understand they really cater to the Hispanics so FYI keep an eye on your kids question them when they come home of what happened good and bad beacause these little babies that I saw they can't speak up for themselves but I spoke up I told her you don't do that to small children. Do better I was just a person sitting in the library with their kids and witness abuse I wish I knew who the mothers were because I would reach out to them and let them know!
