What Parents Say
Parents consistently praise the Plano Family YMCA preschool program for its warm, nurturing environment and engaged teaching staff. Children are reported to thrive academically and socially through creative activities, while parents appreciate strong communication, safety measures, and the broader YMCA community atmosphere.
I love the YMCA as an organization for their mission and I was a happy member of the Plano Family Y for the last 5 years. Over the last couple months things have really gone south in terms of space. One of the weight room areas has been permanently closed to make room for a basketball court. As a result all the equipment is now squished together in a MUCH MUCH smaller area. This makes working out uncomfortable and in a lot of cases - unsafe. In the weight training area…you literally feel like you’re getting a lap dance from the person next to you 😀. Stair steppers are so close to each other that I can rub shoulders with the next person. If you are even slightly serious about strength and weight training - this is NOT the place for you. Local management are incompetent and useless handling the avalanche of customer complaints and corporate does not seem to care. Overall it just feels like a place with negative energy, that's slowly but surely being ruined. This place does NOT deserve your hard earned money!
The gym space is poorly managed and consistently overcrowded, making workouts uncomfortable and unsafe. What’s more frustrating is the lack of cooperation or accountability from management when concerns are raised. Members deserve better communication and action, not dismissal. A major factor in our decision to leave was the extremely limited space for strength training, which made workouts inconvenient and uncomfortable. Equally disappointing was the lack of professionalism and supportive behavior from the management team. I strongly urge the CEO of the YMCA to take a serious look at the leadership and management practices at this location. Meaningful changes are needed to restore member confidence and improve the overall experience. Without improvements in both facility management and leadership accountability, this gym risks losing more loyal members.
For people residing in Plano this is a good option for daily workouts. This is a family friendly facility where myself and my 10 year old daughter go together to workout. I myself am a member here for 2+ years. Apart from work out they offer free group sessions through the week on Yoga, Zumba, Dance, Martial Arts etc. These are free of charges They also conduct outdoor camps, soccer clinics , tournaments etc that comes at a price. 🏋🏻 Has dedicated weights area 🏃♂️Broad range of equipments for cardio and muscles 🧘 Dedicated area for Yoga 👫👭Separate rooms for group sessions like Zumba, Dance and Martial Arts 🧒 Preschool facility and Kids Watch area available 🏀 Basketball indoor court available 🏊 It has no Swimming facility and that’s a big miss. 💵 The membership price is pricey compared to other brand of Gyms available nearby.
Recently, the YMCA closed the gym (basketball court) for renovations, resulting in the cancellation of several classes that were held in that space. Shortly after, a major flooding event forced all classes to be suspended throughout the facility. The facility faces ongoing challenges beyond these temporary setbacks. As an older building, there are recurring issues—such as inadequate cooling during the peak summer months.
Sad to see that they have renovated the weight room to be smaller - now all the equipment is crammed into the main area. The biggest benefit that this location had was the floor space to accommodate all of the various equipment.
