What Parents Say
Fox Valley Family YMCA in Plano receives overwhelmingly positive feedback for its comprehensive facilities, caring staff, and strong sense of community. Parents praise the quality of childcare programs, summer camps, and youth activities, though some express concerns about membership policies and facility access limitations.
We love being a YMCA Family! Our kids have attended both ELA at Sandwich and Plano, as well as participated in swim lessons, mini gymnastics, and soccer. All of the programs are top notch, and the teachers are amazing. They also put on great programs for the community like touch a truck events, a Halloween carnival and more! We have really felt a sense of community with everyone we encounter through the Y, and are thankful to have them as a part of our village!
I have recently found out that you can no longer pay to get in each day after 4 pm. You must be a member. As someone who would only go once a week there is no point in paying the membership fee. Plus why would I pay a membership fee when all I want to do is shoot a basketball for an hour or so once a week. It is the only place with an indoor court that people in the area can use. I work until 3:30 pm so it leaves me zero time to get there and do anything. It seems they have forgot what the YMCA stands for, instead are only worried about how much money they can make. We'll just like other comments on here, youve lost another person. Hopefully they get rid of the new CEO and get someone who cares about the people instead of filling his/her pockets. What a joke.
I am extremely disappointed to hear that Michelle is no longer at the Y. She was the reason it felt like a second home to me. Michelle had a way of making everyone feel welcome, supported, and capable of reaching their goals. She genuinely cared about people, and it showed in every single class she taught. I only do the instructor-led classes at the Y, and honestly it’s the only reason I have a membership. Knowing that such a big piece of that experience is now missing really makes me question whether keeping my membership is worth it. The fact that the YMCA could so easily let go of Michelle — someone who truly embodied what the YMCA stands for — is incredibly upsetting. Her absence leaves a void that cannot be filled.
I’ve been going to the Y for quite awhile now. I take 8-9 classes a week and love them and the instructors are AMAZING. I found out that one of the best instructors of 15+ years is no longer there ! WHY ? She has literally helped thousands of people on their get healthy journey . Very disappointed and angry at the upper ups thinking that this is a good idea. How can I feel confident that another, and another may have the same treatment? I know that there is a new CEO…. FIX THIS !!
Updated Review Our family joined the YMCA Plano Branch in August/September 2024, and initially, our experience was very positive. We enrolled our children in swim lessons and were encouraged by the progress they made and the confidence they gained. The instructors at the time were patient, supportive, and genuinely invested in the kids. That positive start led my husband and me to try group fitness classes, where we found a strong sense of motivation, community, and consistency. For a while, this branch truly felt like a place where our whole family could thrive. Unfortunately, over time, that experience has significantly changed. The quality and consistency that once defined this location have steadily declined due to poor leadership decisions, frequent staff turnover, and poorly managed transitions. The supportive, professional environment—especially within group fitness—has been replaced with inconsistency and a noticeable lack of professionalism. What once felt motivating and community-driven now feels unstable and discouraging. These issues are not isolated incidents but reflect deeper, systemic problems. As a result, we no longer feel comfortable, motivated, or aligned with continuing our membership. More importantly, the current state of the organization no longer reflects the YMCA’s stated core values of respect, responsibility, honesty, and caring. While we are grateful for the positive experiences we had early on and for the instructors who made a meaningful impact during that time, we can no longer recommend the YMCA Plano Branch. It simply does not stand up to the standards or principles it promotes, and that is deeply disappointing given how strong it once was.
