What Parents Say

Reviews consistently praise the welcoming community, beautiful architecture, convenient Mass times, and spiritual offerings including perpetual adoration.
Attended a funeral there. Young African priest was very good. He knew his Bible well. The music was lovely and perfect for the occasion. Wish there was more explanation of the religious rituals being conducted. The organization of the service seemed confused. Came back here for a baby baptism. Nice service. Priest was personable.
An absolutely delightful Catholic Church which closely follows traditional Catholic doctrine. Mass times are very convenient, especially during the weekdays, with back-to-back Masses offered at 6:30AM and 7:30AM. The interior of the church is more on the modern, post-Vatican II side, with four sets of dark, wooden pews, each separated by angled straight, aisles. You will also notice the stunning, stained-glass artwork along both sides of the church, depicting scenes of Our Lady of Sorrows. It is particularly nice that the morning Masses end with the prayer to St. Michael, and then the Litany of the Saints, both lead by the priest as they processed out. Parking is a little tricky, with a handicapped lot off to the right as you face the Church, and the main lot in the rear. The Church is built into a hill, so you will need to watch your step due to the angles, but railings are available to assist.
One of the beautiful places in Birmingham, AL. A must visit place for a Catholic Family/community. People are nice and it's not about them inside the Church but, how you connect him (God) thru prayer with sincerity, dedication, love and your faith.
Excellent experience. Kind community. 24/7 Adoration. Open Chalice on the weekend. All icons of Jesus depict Him as European, but the congregation is truly diverse. If Open Chalice was available during the week or the traditional Icons were used it would be a 5 star. Every priest during my experience did his duty, was kind and truly a pleasure to be around.
I'm not Catholic, but OLS has been a very welcoming and approachable community. I enjoy going to Sunday Mass and admiring the mysteries of Catholicism. If you've ever been interested in Catholicism I think this would be a great place to start your journey! :)
