I turned to Our Lady of Perpetual Help when l needed to receive the sacrament of reconciliation to fulfill my requirements of First Friday and First Saturday promises. Time ran out for the Saturday Confessions. I was not able to go to the Thursday Reconciliations. Saturday Confessions were going to be canceled. I CALLED the school and a kind lady listened to my pridicament. She transfered me to the church office. Tammy listened to my problem. She took the time to help me. I was pleasantly surprised when she told me that there was an appointment available that very day. I got to the church parking lot an hour early. I parked in the Handicap Parking. I walked to the church but it was locked. I walked around and found the Blessed Sacrament Chapel. It was locked. I needed a code. I walked back to the church. They had Bulletins where l was able to get the phone number to call the church office. Tammy gave me the code. I walked back to the Chapel. I sat in the pesceful atmosphere. They had a sign in notebook. They had rosaries that l could use. I felt so welcomed. When it was time for my appointment, l walked back to the office. They had restrooms available, so l was able to be comfortable when l met with Father Jeff. Father Jeff was very kind. He fulfilled my requirement for the First Friday and First Saturday promises. But he was much more. He made me feel as a child of God. He made me feel as if l were at my parish church. I felt at HOME. I left purified. The tears had flowed and l had the release that l had held in for too long. It felt as if Father Jeff had known me all of my 78 years. He was younger but he was a true FATHER to me. I returned to the Chapel. I understood how the code was a protection for the people who were quietly praying. When it was time, l walked back to the church for 12:15 Mass. No one knew me, but everyone smiled to welcome me. I walked to the front bench. The priest came and gave me Communion when it was time. I was WELCOMED and felt as if l were HOME. Our Lady of Perpetual Help was EXACTLY that. Our Blessed Mother welcomed me home.
Love this church. Everyone is friendly and welcoming. Fr. Jeff is kind and soft spoken and always has time for his parish family.
Fr Jeff has a kind demeanor and seems genuine, prayerful and generous with his time in a scheduled meeting. Offices are very nice. Main church somewhat dated - could use a fresh million dollar face lift— anybody looking to make a large difference with a large donation could do worse.
I feel very uplifted when attending this house of God. Friendly people, plenty of classes and opportunities to grow in your faith, ministries to build community, and priests that truly care!
OLPH Selma is a blessing. Two years ago we met with Fr Eric and Fr Thumma during the Year - Opening of the Holy Doors, which was all about forgiveness and welcoming separated individuals and families back into the Church. It has been a time of healing, reconnecting and growth in faith, hope and charity. Thank you to our priests, deacons, sisters, laity and parishioners. Welcome to Fr Jaime, (and Fr Thumma we miss you). To all, your warm inviting presence, help and compassion are greatly appreciated and received with sincere gratitude.
