What Parents Say
NURTURY INC. @ HARVARD STREET has received highly conflicting reviews. One parent praised the patient and caring teachers, but five parents reported serious concerns including staff unprofessionalism, harsh treatment of children, inadequate supervision, lack of curriculum, and unsafe conditions.
My daughter attended preschool at Nurtury, I wanted to give a big shout out to the wonderful teachers. The teachers were attentive to the children. I ralso eally loved this childcare program because the teachers are very patient, and caring about the children. My daughter had a great experience and I'm looking forward to register my son this fall. Nurtury child care in Cambridge is a great place for you to bring your child.
One staff member in particular ( a woman with pink and blue braids) is especially concerning. She speaks to the children with constant annoyance in her tone, raising her voice and scolding them for very minor things. I witnessed her at the water fountain yelling at the children while filling their cups, as if their needs were a burden to her. This kind of negative interaction is harmful for young children, who deserve patient, nurturing, and respectful caregivers. The way she addresses them is disrespectful and dismissive, and it’s heartbreaking to see such little empathy in a setting that should provide warmth and encouragement. The children at this preschool deserve far better care and respect than what they are receiving.
I would not recommend this preschool. The staff consistently show unprofessional behavior, especially during outdoor time at Sennott Park. Instead of actively supervising and engaging with the children, staff members often sit on benches talking about their personal lives, using profanity, and complaining about not having the public park to themselves. I have also witnessed staff speaking harshly to children. For example, when one child picked up a small stick, a staff member with pink and blue braids said “no thank you,” then immediately threatened in an aggressive tone to make the child sit on the bench if they didn’t comply. This is not how young children should be guided or redirected. The children themselves seem poorly supported — there is frequent shoving, pushing, and unsafe play that goes unchecked. The uniforms/shirts the children wear are much too long for some of them, and I’ve seen kids trip over the fabric multiple times. Preschools should prioritize safety, kindness, and positive role modeling. Unfortunately, what I’ve observed at this program falls far short of those standards.
Preschoolers are generally expected to learn to recognize letters, both uppercase and lowercase, and to write the alphabet. This is a foundational skill for reading and writing, and a 2008 report by the National Early Literacy Panel concluded that learning the alphabet is the best predictor of future reading success. I like some stuff, some have gone an extra mile for my daughter.. however, because this preschool does not have a curricular... it's not a good preschool in my opinion, sadly...
As a person who worked here and devoted herself to the children, inadvice you to please send your children elsewhere. This place is called the "nurtury", but they aren't living up to their name. They yank toddlers and children by their arms, they yell at them from the top of their lungs, they bully them by calling them names and they listen to inappropriate music while texting or calling their friends/boyfriends.
