Please do your homework before enrolling your child with this daycare. I am a current and soon-to-be former customer of learning to know because their Wilton location is closing on 2/28/20. There is an extensive list of violations that forced their closure and I’m lead to believe the organizational issues stem from the top based on various observations over the last year. The owner gave the parents 2 weeks notice to find childcare and gave no indication they were closing prior to that point. That left me and other parents without childcare and on waiting lists with other facilities. When confronted with staffing issues that forced them to close recently I did not receive a call and arrived one morning to find that they were closed. The owner was unapologetic and didn’t offer that they were facing license revocation despite issuing the letter announcing their closure within days of our phone call. My perspective is they strung us along for the tuition until they couldn’t anymore. Please make sure you inquire online about violations in their Clifton Park location to ensure you’re sending your child somewhere safe. There are several instances of organizational dysfunction that are too long to list, and it’s sad that the staff members in the facility had to field questions about open CPS cases because many of them meant well while caring for my child. The owner is at fault here for not reaching out to each parent to ensure them they were addressing the issues and I don’t see how that can’t be pervasive and begin affecting the Clifton Park location. Buyer beware.
As a parent, I would never trust this establishment with my child again. I brought my child here five times, before pulling him from the program. The “lead” (Kristen) is one of the most rude and unprofessional people I have ever encountered. She lost her temper in front of both of my children, other staff members and the other children in the class. The way she spoke to me was disturbing, and her mannerisms were VERY aggressive. If she was okay with acting like that in front of me, I fear for how she treats the children when the parents are not around. This incident was brought to the director's attention (Debbie), and the director’s response was that “She wasn’t there” and “Well, Kristen is a nice girl…”. My daughter, who is seven, told me that she was scared Kristen was going to hurt me. All of this was because I had asked Kristen if she could help find my sons blankets, to which I was told “I don’t know what to tell ya”. The director told me that I didn’t write my name on the blankets, therefore another parent probably took them home. I wasn’t even upset about the blanket incident, and I did NOT raise my voice- Until my last visit when Kristen started throwing my sons things into his book bag aggressively, among other rude comments. I was in absolute shock as to how unprofessional this facility is. I would NOT recommend trusting this facility with your children.
We had our son enrolled at the Wilton location prior to their license being revoked which led to their closing on 2/28/20. We fortunately left a couple months prior to their closing because the "writing was on the wall." The lack of professionalism, communication, and integrity from the Head Director Ms. Debbie Horton were obvious at the end. We did have great experiences with several of the teachers (Brittany, Cheyenne, Amy, Rosy) for the year we were with them, however the lack of attention from the top ultimately led to daycare's downfall. I would be cautious enrolling your child at this Clifton Park location as the leadership team/ownership is the same as the closed down Wilton location. According to the NYS Office of Children and Family Services website, they were closed down for numerous uncorrected violations which include: "Children cannot be left without competent supervision at any time." "Corporal punishment is prohibited." "Physical restraint is prohibited." "All matches, lighters, medicines, drugs, cleaning materials, detergents, aerosol cans and other poisonous or toxic materials must be stored in their original containers." "Garbage receptacles must be covered, and cleaned as needed after emptying." "When a child day care center is in operation, an adequate number of qualified teachers must be on duty to insure the health and safety of the children in care." "Barriers must exist to prevent children from gaining access to unsafe areas." "Children cannot be left without competent supervision at any time." "The use of any type of personal electronic media device for social or entertainment purposes, including but not limited to, listening to music on headphones, playing screen games, surfing the internet, sending e-mails, or making personal calls while supervising children is prohibited." If these scenarios existed at one of their locations, who's to say these won't occur at the Clifton Park location as well.
My daughter has been going for about a year now and I can't say one negative things. My daughter loves going to preschool and asks on the weekends why she is not there. That's a great feeling as a parent!
Parents in Saratoga and Clifton Park. Stay away from this facility!! A whole plethora of issues when my niece was there. Now CPS shows up yesterday. I honestly have no idea how this place is still open but you need to get your kids out!
