What Parents Say
Parents consistently praise Laurel Oak Children's Center (now operating as SOP Little Disciples of Joy under new management) for its caring staff, clean facility, and family-like atmosphere. Multiple reviewers highlight the professionalism of administration, strong communication, and children's visible learning and development. Staff members are frequently noted for treating children with compassion and loving them like their own.
I’m going to be honest: If your child attends this center, then you’re pretty much paying for glorified babysitters. There’s no curriculum (or at least a curriculum that can be thoroughly presented when asked), no encouragement for creativity, no accountability, no communication, no organization - just chaos and supposed “fun” in all aspects. This center thrives off of doing the bare minimum (emphasis on MINIMUM)! The staff are kind and cordial, but I didn’t meet anyone that ignited a special spark (and if/when I did, they didn’t stay employed there for long smh). Everybody just seems like they are there to just “do a job” instead of it feeling like it’s their true purpose and they really want to see these children succeed. The director is very nice NASTY (emphasis on the NASTY). Her tone and delivery is very abrasive borderline disrespectful. I’m under the impression that everyone thinks it’s “cool” since she’s so close with the owners. Then to top it all off - the director is RARELY there. It’s like she’s “mailing in” her duties as a director which is something I’ve NEVER witnessed. I’m really shocked that the owners haven’t just called it quits and closed the doors because the amount of directors that have been through there is insane and the lack of skills to effectively organize and communicate doesn’t make things better. The pay isn’t extreme but you get what you pay for, which in this case, you would be paying to get nothing. Whole center just BLAH. 0/10 would not recommend. I also want to note that I know we live in a society where childcare and our education system isn’t always the best. But it’s extremely frustrating when a childcare center could be doing better and staff/owners may even have a couple in the bunch that want to do better in providing a certain standard of care yet they don’t. And they clearly show it.
I can't believe this daycare is closing with like a five day notice. I've been up all night thinking about how hard it is to find childcare that isn't expensive. Im struggling working two jobs and taking care of two kids at the same time. I wish the upper staff people could've done their jobs on hiring people instead of just deciding to close. I feel for the staff members who have less than a week to find a job which is impossible. This daycare or the church that owns it should've done better. May God bless everyone who needs it as well all embark on this new journey.
Since Shalom Of Peace has taken over this daycare, there have been several community events where we've gotten to learn about the daycare, and see how much pride they take in this place. Its wonderful to see a faith based center that takes their responsibility as an honor and treats all of the children as family. Seeing the little ones one up and hug their teachers on a Saturday or after hours speaks volumes. I've seen other 1 star reviews, but based on what I've seen with my own eyes and heard from the other families, I believe the devil is busy. I recommend SOP Little Disciples of Joy every chance I get!
Absolutely love this daycare. My children have been going here for 3 years & the administers are awesome & very professional. My children learned so much here & I feel safe with my kids here . They communicate so well & caring for the kids & parents. Very professional & shows nothing but compassion. I see the evidence of the children learning from babies to toddlers. Highly recommend this daycare for your children.
Editing to add: this review is specific to the previous administration in 2018. It's my understanding that this center is under new management, and I cannot speak to the quality of the center since that change happened. I recently had my first child and knew that her first day of daycare was going to be a heart wrenching experience for me when I headed back to work. I couldn't have been more wrong! The ladies in the infant 1 classroom at Laurel Oak have the biggest hearts. They have loved on my baby like she's their own and showed me so much kindness and compassion as a new mama. Additionally, the directors Jamie and Jessica are two of the most kind-hearted people I've ever met. I know my baby is in the BEST hands here and I would recommend this daycare center to everyone. Thank you, Laurel Oak Children's Center, for putting this new mama's mind at ease day in and day out.
