This has been on our bucket list since we moved to Nc 2 years ago! I wasn't sure what to expect but it was AMAZING. I definitely feel it's a must see at least once in your life. No detail was missed! We took the chairlift up to Oz and obviously back down. There was amazing views and scenery. Once we got to Oz there was plenty of spots for us to take pictures at and meet the characters. All characters did such a great job in their role! There is some hills and walking that you may need to wear good shoes or take a rest. I saw older people resting quite a bit as some parts can be difficult, I mean you are on a mountain! I'm very overweight and I did fine with resting 2 times after a killer hill. We also did the scenic view trail (extra fee) beautiful! Such a neat place and glad we finally made it out!

I have visited the Land of Oz twice now and it's such a wonderful experience. They have the best staff and all of the performers are amazing. The costumes are movie quality and everyone takes their roles very seriously. Boone mountain is absolutely gorgeous and from Oz you can see the views from the top of the mountain along with all of the amazing sites along the yellow brick road. The yellow brick road is just under a mile winding through the trees at the top of the mountain. The area is primarily shaded and there are places to stop and sit along the way if you need a break. It's basically a leisurely stroll on a paved path as long as you are not bothered by the incline or the change in elevation. But if you are not used to walking a mile or so at a time then that's definitely something to consider before you go. There's a lot of walking to get from the parking area up to the bus loading area and then from the buses into the park and then you walk through the park itself. There are several areas where you do have to walk across gravel as well. It's just things to keep in mind when planning your trip and when choosing the shoes you are going to wear. If you have high heeled ruby slippers then you might want to pack a pair of backup shoes just in case...I saw several people walking across gravel Barefoot because they couldn't walk in their ruby slippers. There are a lot of areas that are handicapped accessible, but there are a lot of areas that really aren't. You walk a lot, and there are stairs that you have to climb to get to the shuttles that take you up the mountain, most of the park is an incline, and if you are not used to the higher elevation then that is something to take into consideration as well before you go. Technically, I suppose you could push a wheelchair through the majority of the park, but it is not going to be easy, I did see people there with wheelchairs and I saw Oz staff assisting them with pushing the wheelchairs. Truly, unless you are capable of walking most of the day and going uphill a lot I wouldn't recommend it, it's not going to be a leisurely trip for you. The overlook add-on is beautiful, but you do climb over one hundred stairs to get there, I can't remember the exact number but I think it was 109. This area is not accessible and I saw a lot of people struggling making their way up the stairs. You get a beautiful view from the gazebo at the beginning of the park as well and that area is easily accessible, so don't worry about missing out on the views if the steps may be too difficult. I would not want to take a really small child there that would need to be carried all day or that you would have to push in a stroller. I took my daughter when she was five, and she had a wonderful time, she was young enough for it to be magical and old enough to walk on her own without being upset about walking all day. Oz is an absolutely wonderful place and I highly recommend visiting, none of this information is meant to be negative or to deter people from visiting. I just hope the information is helpful while trying to plan your trip.

A must see! Step inside the movie as you walk through this amazing performance from the opening scenes, to riding the tornado, walking the yellow brick road, outwitting the which, and finally meeting the Wizard! This place truly is magical. Stay informed via website and get tickets early before they sale out. Also check out Tweeties Railroad, downtown Bonne and Blowing Rock also close bye.

After following Google maps for almost an hour, taking 3 different routes, we eventually found this door with a posted sign at the road. Google says it's open, but it's not. If it is, it is impossible to find.
