If you want to send your child somewhere they will be yelled at that provides absolutely no nurturing then go ahead and send them here. The director is not a kind woman, the teachers are not welcoming, and I have heard more yelling at the children than I have kind words in the short 4 weeks my daughter was enrolled. I made the decision today to withdraw my child after an incident with the director. My daughter screams when I leave her here, she does this absolutely nowhere else. While my daughter was hugging me, crying and begging me to not leave her, the director, Sandy, ripped her from my hands and carried her away yelling at me for "prolonging" the goodbye and told my 2 year old "We are NOT doing the crying thing today!". Needless to say I would not even leave a dead dog in their care. They never do activities with the children, as only 2 days my child was enrolled did they send home worksheets showing that any enrichment was actually going on here. A report has been filed with the state.
I have a bachelor degree in criminal law, and 6 years of experience working in both public school and residential behavioral treatment centers. I applied for this daycare to supplement my income and to provide daycare children with real school age State educational experiences.I am also currently in the middle of being licensed as a home daycare facility. I met with the administrator Sandy, and she asked me to do an inventory and write a list of needed items. An inventory requires you to pull out items, quantify them, categorize them etc. I think she thought I was going to throw the items away. To properly plan a lesson, all materials need to be examined, reviewed, and inspected. Furthermore, I noticed that A LOT of visual aids, manipulatives, and teacher instructional materials were missing. There were no preschool/primary early learning leveled reader books. I cleared out the book shelf, and was planning to replenish it with appropriate age leveled books. The preschool room is dirty/unkept, cots are old, toys are old/meaningless, Barbie dolls/dolls naked, children are not being encouraged and required to practice wearing masks etc. and the teacher was not engaged with the children and providing hands on learning. The children’s belongings are not properly stored to meet hygiene requirements, as evidenced in a previous inspection report. The children’s educational records are not properly stored in a locked file for confidentiality purposes etc. On day two of my observation, from home I brought in a dry erase board, phonics flash cards, alphabet manuscript, sight word cards, globe, etc. and did not stay because she rather I lower the state of Ohio expectations for early learning. She stated that she did not want someone teaching all day. She rather the children engage in unstructured, unguided play lessons instead. Further stating that the children need empathy and love . I took this as if, she thought I would be too strict and unsympathetic to their emotional needs. She also hounded me for a background check that I already completed with ODJFS. I also took that as if she implied something negative, especially since ODJFS reviewed my BCI FBI on file and sent a letter dated within 2 days of hire that I was already cleared. It is my belief this company may have simply wanted a copy of my degree and training to pretend as though they have hired someone with SUTQ credentials. I have a CPL 4, which is higher than Sandy( the administrator) of the program. She has no understanding of “rigor” and or planning structured evidence based lessons aligned to state standards. She believes creative curriculum is the only approved preschool/daycare curriculum and that the proper implementation of this curriculum is to allow the children to engage in unmeaningful play. She does not throughly understand ODJFS rules and or requirements, and has no real experience teaching or leading others. I just figured for the hourly wage she wanted to pay and wanting me to conform to below the state standards would not work. So I decided to go home and finish my paperwork to operate my own program.
