What Parents Say
Kim's Karate Timonium receives mixed reviews. Positive reviewers praise the owners' personal attention, discipline instruction, and caring approach. However, negative reviewers report poor supervision on field trips, mishandled bullying incidents, disorganization with equipment orders, and concerning staff behavior toward children with behavioral or disability needs.
I have been taking classes at Kim's Karate for about two years now and they have been more then helpful to me. I am currently training for my second degree black belt and the owner takes his own personal time to help me perfect my skills and form. The owners of this establishment care for all the children as if they were their own. I have seen it on countless occasions and they act in a way I believe every daycare should. I have never had a problem with Kim's Karate in anything and I will continue to take classes in the future. I highly recommend Kim's Karate for anyone interested in Tae Kwon Do classes or a great daycare.
The owners don't know what they're doing. Be prepared for conflicting information, uneven policies, poor supervision for the kids, no action to protect kids from bullying, and temper tantrums from the "adults" that pretend to run the place. On August 8th, my husband brought my daughters over to Kim's Karate ready to go on the field trip to Hershey Park and he was screamed at by one of the owners right in the lobby in front of other kids and parents. My children were singled out and labeled as "a problem" because they were on a previous, poorly-supervised field trip (to Dave & Buster's where the mostly teenaged "counselors" spent more time playing games and socializing than taking responsibility for kids) they got separated from the group. They went on another field trip since then, to the Science Center, and didn't have any problems. I guess I should be glad that this day isn't going to end with my kids lost in Pennsylvania and the owners of Kim's Karate trying to shift the blame. Previous to this, my older daughter had been taking Tae Kwon Do lessons there for about 2 years. We've made multiple requests for them to order new sparring pads and weapons for her training. They've told us it's best to order things through them, but it doesn't seem better when they're clearly so disorganized they don't even complete the orders. We also reported a bullying problem to them in May, a senior brown belt boy had threatened and intimidated my blue belt daughter on multiple occasions, culminating in him physically attacking her (not at Kim's Karate). We were told this boy would be encouraged to apologize to her and placed on probation, where his belt would be taken away and he would not be able to test for black belt. He never apologized and was able to test for his black belt less than one month after the incident. I would give them less than one star in this review if I could. Be warned, you do not want your child to attend this facility!
If I could give ZERO starz that be my rating! Truth be told I guess if you have a child that does not disobey from time to time than this is your place but if you have a child that has disability or behavior issues DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILD HERE! They will yell at your child, make them feel uncomfortable and actually tell them other kids dont want to be around them and even use inappropriate force to try to control your child. Their behavior and tactics to control children when parents are not around are unethical and inappropriate! Talk to your child everyday they come home from that place to make them feel confortable to tell you anything and everything! If it wasnt for my childten telling me what was going on in that place they would still be there! They need to have their license stripped for misconduct with children!
An amazing place, they have helped me so much, they discipline well and teach self discipline. The owners are amazing and so are the counselors. Going there is such a joy, I look forward to going whenever I am given the chance.
I use to come here. They moved
