What Parents Say
Kids Are People Too receives mostly 5-star reviews praising the caring staff, engaging learning environment, and family atmosphere. However, several parents report serious concerns about the owner's handling of children with behavioral or developmental challenges, inflexible discipline policies, and unprofessional communication regarding waitlist management.
I feel so incredibly lucky for both of my children to be at this daycare. My daughter is excited about going to school every single morning. The staff is incredible. Their communication is excellent and they truly go above and beyond to make the kids have a fun learning experience. There are family events that are so special. Summer events that the kids love. Regardless of drop off or pickup, there is always a good vibe when entering the center. My daughter just graduated Pre-K and is about to start Kindergarten. She has completely blossomed since starting at KATP. Also - The effort the staff put into the graduation ceremony was unbelievable. Ms. Jamie has created something truly beautiful with this place.
I wish there was a rating greater than 5 stars! Both of my kids loved their years from babies to Pre-K at Kids are People Too. The staff became family over the years and the value that you get is truly worth it. Mrs. Jamie is beyond helpful in working with you to accommodate your schedule, child needs, payment plans, etc. For those looking for a reliable and nurturing daycare for your kids, this is the best in the area.
Everything in the review from the woman with the child who forewarned KAPT that her child was experiencing behavior challenges is EXACTLY how they treat children who don't follow their "way or the highway" authoritarian discipline style. What is upsetting is that, no one has ever come to me and has been transparent with me about the issues they are having. It has always been me asking how my son's day was going and then being bombarded with nothing but negative comments about my 2.5 year old. We loved his previous daycare but we moved to Prairieville, so it wasn't feasible to keep him where he was at. I wanted to love this daycare, but my son came home with a "first offense" on a behavior letter saying that someone would either have to pick him up everyday for noon or we would have to come sit with him everyday for the duration of his nap, because they couldn't get him to lay down and that sitting next to him for five minutes until he fell asleep was "too much". One of the nice tenured teachers told us not to worry about the letter and that he wasn't misbehaving for her at all and that she would keep an eye on him and help during nap-time, but then this morning the director said that it was a "no-go" and that one of us would be required to still come everyday at noon to pick up our child for the day or sit with him for his 2 hour nap. My child had ZERO problems at his previous daycare that KAPT is saying they are having with him. All in all, I want other mom's and dad's to know that unless your toddler is an angel and never misbehaves, this daycare will not be a good fit for you. There are other daycares in the area that will LOVE your child and it's probably better to choose elsewhere.
I have thought about writing a review for months, but I needed time to think about my experience at KAPT. After such time, I feel compelled to warn other parents about the lack of professionalism exhibited by the owner of the facility. When I signed my child up to attend KAPT, I was thoroughly impressed by the staff, their temperaments, the facility in general, and the fun I saw other children having. My child absolutely loved going to daycare at KAPT. However, after not even two months of attending the center, the owner came to me and told me that she did not feel my child was suitable for their facility. Now, prior to this, my son visited the facility, and I was honest about the issues he was facing and his treatment for symptoms such as hyperactivity and impulsiveness. They assured me that this would not be an issue, that they had fostered the learning of children with ADHD before. However, during the exit speech the owner gave me, she told me that she thought my son (3yo) should be medicated, have a brain scan, and needed to see a psychiatrist. She said, "There is a malfunction in his brain." She also said that the staff at the facility were too 'out-of-shape' and old to care properly for my child. While I understand that KAPT may have not been the right fit for my child and I appreciate the owner admitting to any deficiencies she felt were present, the lack of professionalism and discrimination in her comments is against state regulations. Children with disabilities or children who are being treated for symptoms of mental health issues such as ADHD should be more protected under the law and should not face discrimination in licensed daycare facilities. The stars I awarded to the facility in my rating simply because everyone tends to speak highly of KAPT and the facility is visually pleasing and clean.
Short Story: Posting this to hopefully warn parents about the waitlist at Kids are People too in Prairieville. I am completely disgusted by how the owner, Jamie, handled the waitlist ultimately making me in a last minute frizzy to find a daycare. Long story: in February I toured the facility with owner, Jamie. I got placed on the waitlist for my 2 year old to enroll in August. She assured me it wouldn’t be a problem that she would be enrolled for Aug. I asked to pay registration then to secure the spot. She told me she doesn’t do registration until June. I left and called back a few weeks later to confirm I was indeed on the list and expressed my concerns of not registering until June and should anything happen and we not make the cut I will be scrambling last minute. She said she understood but that we would be good to go in August. A few months later I called to see if she had anything sooner than August by chance and expressed I was desperate to get her out of her current childcare situation. She told me she didn’t have anything until August. I verified we were still going to be good for August and I’d wait to hear from her in June to register. On June 11th, I called the facility since I had not heard anything. The lady who answered the phone told me “all of those on the waitlist have been contacted.” I was in shock. I told her everything that had happened and she told me she’d have Jamie call me. At this point my heart was in my stomach and I could no longer wait to find out what the conclusion was going to be. I’m now less than 2 months from August. I drove to the facility and asked if Jamie was available. The lady at the front desk told me she wasn’t. I kindly asked when she would be available and the woman looked at me like I had two heads. I then told her who I was and that I was panicking and needed to get in touch with Jamie. She told me that Jamie is on field trips every day in the summer (total lie as there is no way the owner of a daycare takes kids on field trips all day everyday during the summer). I then asked her if she is saying Jamie is never available in person during the summer and that’s when she said only until 9am. I asked her to please ensure Jamie call me. That night, I was completely stressed trying to figure out what my other options were going to be if this truly didn’t pan out. This facility had come recommended and is literally right next to where I live and will be taking my older child to primary school. I decided to email Jamie explaining everything that had occurred and that I hoped this was a misunderstanding as she had reassured me 3 times that my child would be enrolled for August. The next morning I received a reply back from Jamie that was blank and only had an attachment. The attachment was a blanket letter that she sent to all parents who will not make the cut this year and it states that due to staff shortage my child will not be enrolled. I am completely disgusted that she had assured me multiple times and then didn’t have the courtesy to call me or even acknowledge my email personally, given the circumstances. This showed a complete lack of care, empathy and professionalism. This has caused me so much stress as I will now have to go on another waitlist elsewhere since I am now only 2 months from the new school year. All of this to say, do not put all of your eggs in one basket here and do not take her word too seriously.
