What Parents Say
Jenkintown Day Nursery receives mixed reviews with most parents praising the clean facilities, caring staff, educational quality, and individual attention to children. However, serious safety concerns have been raised regarding inadequate incident reporting, lack of supervision, and poor communication with parents about injuries sustained at the facility.
On May 12th at Jenkintown Day Nursery, approximately around 3:30PM, I observed some bruises on the left side of my son's forehead above his eye. When I brought this to the attention of Syndney- his teacher, and the other staff, Sydney walked over and stated “Hadn’t noticed those marks, I’m going to get a incident report.” I asked the entire room of staff and teachers, including Sydney "What could have possibly taken place for my son's face to look like this?" Everyone was silent. When Sydney brought over the incident report it had a description of what had taken place. I then continued to ask questions, and her answer was "I don’t know." I am very heartbroken that this incident has taken place and no one claims to know what happened. No one took the time to contact me or at least try to notify me regarding the very apparent bruises on his face. For this to be a childcare facility that claims to put the welfare and safety of the children first, this incident is being handled poorly. I feel that my concerns are being brushed under the rug and the incident is being covered up. I am highly disappointed in Syndney's attitude and blatant lack of care and concern for my child. Due to this nonchalant response by Jenkintown Day Nursery, CCIS and other necessary offices may need to be contacted so they can assess this center's ability to properly monitor the children in it's care.
My child has been attending the Day Nursery for 2 1/2 yrs. We have been through the transition and we appreciate how the new director has been able to adapt and address our needs. Prompt attention is given to each concern. The facility is CLEAN,the staff is friendly, warm and welcoming. I know my child is well taken care of each day. The education he is receiving is surpassing multiple facilities in the area. The school is a multicultural melting pot. Such a wonderful experience for all involved. Thank you to the entire staff.
Our set of twins have been attending the nursery for one year now. We love it! The school is clean and well appointed with toys and learning tools, and has nice indoor and outdoor play areas. In order to try to keep them healthy, the children are taught to wash their hands when they arrive at the school and after they go to the bathroom. The teachers worked with us to potty train the children making attainment of that developmental skill easy and stress free. The teachers have really gotten to know the strengths and weaknesses of each of the children and are attentive to their individual needs. For example, they even remember which day our kids go to gymnastics or that their grandmother is out of town for a few days! We also LOVE that a healthy breakfast, mid-morning and mid-afternoon snacks, and lunch are provided. We expect to continue bringing them to Jenkintown Day Nursery until they age out of the facility!
I loved and love everything about this school. My son started and my daughter followed a couple months later. They both had absolutely amazing teachers, I knew everyday that my children learned something new and had fun learning. I lived in Abington but moved to the northeast of Philadelphia, my family drove 35- 40 minutes to this daycare daily for a year and a half, of course passing many school and child care facilities. But, because the school is so wonderful I didn't look anywhere else, in the mean time let me gloat about the simple fact that my children had not been sick in almost 2 years on the account of how clean the school is on a daily bases. Unfortunately recently I had to take my kids out of school not due to anything that has to do with the school but the executive team is nothing that I am fond of at all Kathy and the accounting department was extremely rude and would send emails but never answer her phone. The school was like my kids family but it started to feel like a corporation unfortunately my kids are not are number and I didn't like the feeling any longer. We will miss all the teachers dearly. They are a hands down amazing.. but I wish Play and Learn stayed away and never messed with a family oriented environment.
My writing this review because of a child safety issue and hasn't been addressed by this facility. My grand daughter has been attending this place and really likes going there. My daughter told me last year she thought it was a good place. But what I found alarming was my grand daughter was coming home with scratches on her face and neck. My daughter informed me about this. I asked her if she informed the staff. She told me she brought it to their attention. My grand daughter was being attacked by another little girl attending this facility. The thing that has my blood boiling is that fact that she came home again with new scratches and my grand daughter told staff members. When her dad came to pick her up the staff did not mention anything to him about the incident. The new scratches from the most recent attack were observed when they arrived home today. I personally had no prior info about this place. But if they don't take incidents like this seriously someone's child one day may get serious hurt. If you send your child to this location ensure you do a thorough examination once you get home to ensure injuries weren't sustained and not brought to your attention.
