What Parents Say
Immanuel Lutheran Early Childhood Center is a church-affiliated facility where most reviewers praise the religious instruction, friendly staff, and community atmosphere. However, one parent withdrew their child after a serious incident involving a bathroom access denial that resulted in a toileting accident, along with concerns about tooth brushing and staff accountability.
Solid Christ centered preaching and teaching. Word and sacrament ministry.
Do NOT recommend. After 3 days at this facility, we pulled our child from care. REASONS: 1) When arriving to pick my 4.5year old up on the third day, she immediately started crying. I noticed she was wet. I observed the area thinking maybe something spilt, or they did a water play activity, but saw nothing. I asked my child why she was wet and she told me that she asked to use the bathroom but was told no. This occurred just prior to/during nap time. 12:30-1pm time frame. My child asked the caregiver to use the bathroom to go potty and was told no. My child had to consciously lay there and urinate in her clothing on the nap mat knowing that it was wrong. When I arrived at 4:30pm is when I found her wet- her panties, pants, and even the entire back of her shirt. I immediately told the caregiver in the room at that time (Ms Michelle I believe? Not certain because I was never introduced as when I drop off early in the morning the caregiver at that time is the Director, Chelsea.) I said, umm I notice that my child is wet. She said she asked to go to the bathroom and was told no. The caregiver comes to the doorway where my child and I are standing and looks down at my child and says “you never asked me to go to the bathroom.” My child’s demeanor instantly changed, she became shy, lack of eye contact with the caregiver, just looked at me sad. At this time I tell the caregiver that this is unacceptable and I would like to know what happened and who told her no. I also inform her that my child has been potty trained since BEFORE AGE 2, and has NEVER had an accident. Not at home, not during the day, not at night, not while on the road driving (we travel a lot), not ever. We left the room and in the hallway I asked my daughter who told her no, and she told me it was that lady. The one that just told me it wasn’t her. The one that told my daughter “you didn’t ask me, it must have been someone else, who did you ask.” My child reaction spoke volumes. We prepared her for going to daycare/preschool telling her that if she ever needed anything all she needed to do is ask her caregiver. The fact that my child asked to go to the restroom, WAS TOLD NO, and then had to consciously urinate herself knowing that it was wrong, and then still being in those same clothes, WET FOR 3-3.5 hours, is absolutely unacceptable. It’s also incredibly heartbreaking. This event caused us to pull her from care at this facility. I cannot expect or would I even ask my child to go back to a place where a psychologically traumatic experience for her took place. When I took her to the bathroom, and opened her bag, her extra set of clothes were not in it. I had to go back to the room and ask the caregiver where her things were. She ended up finding her shirt in one child’s cubby and her pants in another child’s cubby. 2) I was also told they brush their teeth during the day, however the 3 days that she was there that didn’t happen once. Her toothbrush and toothpaste were still in her bag and I had been asking my child each day if they were brushing them. The incident was totally preventable and never should have occurred. No appology from the caregiver, only a deflection of accountability and trying to blame it on someone else. The way she made my child feel is not okay. I did immediately speak with the director while we were still in the facility. She was caring for children in the infant room. I first had to ask her for wipes to clean my child whose entire back and down to her feet was wet with urine. I explained to her what happened. I told her I would like to discuss this further as it’s not acceptable. She was busy caring for children so I told her I could call her and asked for the best time. At 5:30 pm I called her. She did apologize that this happened. She said because they are short staffed with a teacher on vacation. Because they are short staffed they cannot accompany children to the restroom individually. They go at set times. I paid $230 on 11/6/23, I requested a refund of our enrollment fee and was DECLINED. I will be filing a formal complaint.
The Immanuel Lutheran Church has been our family's church for almost 15 years. Our children all attended the Early Childhood Center. It is a blessing to learn about God here.
