What Parents Say
Horace Mann Preschool has highly polarized reviews. Five parents praise the caring staff, safe environment, and dedication to children. However, five other parents report serious concerns including poor management following a recent administrative transition from Burbank YMCA to Los Angeles YMCA, alleged neglect and abuse, inadequate handling of special needs children, and lack of communication.
We used to love this place when it was run by Burbank YMCA. End of last year, we were shocked to learn that HMCC’s administration was switching to the Los Angeles YMCA and that over 90% of the teachers had already resigned. This major change was never communicated to parents until right before it happened, and things have gone downhill ever since. Under the Burbank YMCA, communication and leadership were excellent. Since the change, we’ve dealt with poor communication, no progress reports for weeks, last-minute closure announcements, and even learning from another parent—not the school—that the usual cook was temporarily gone and kids were being served Costco junk food for breakfast and lunch. While some teachers remain caring and dedicated, the overall lack of transparency and accountability from the admin makes it hard to recommend this program now.
We love the staff and facility. Infant care comes with high anxiety as a parent and these staff members reassure us that our little one is safe. When all the staff knows your child’s name and this includes the office staff, it means a ton. I highly recommend this place.
Let me just start off my saying I have a wonderful four year old that was diagnosed with autism. The therapy classes are great but the regular daycare isn't a well oiled operation. My child's first day at the school wasn't so well and they were already talking about kicking him out. Most of the staff there is just too old to keep up with these high energy kids. I feel it's unfair to dismiss a child just because of his or her disability. They speak so highly if this school and the kids they accept but when they run into a little challenge they give up just like that. There aren't many teachers out there today that is willing to take on something hard. It's so sad but true. I hate how they advertise that they take special needs kids but quickly give up on them. Someone needs to start speaking up because this won't end. I'm willing to take that stand for my child.
I love this school for my son and he loves it too. All his teachers are very nice and I feel safe taking him here 💙💯🙏🏽💕
DISGUSTING CHILD ABUSE it is open door policy so feel free to come in unexpectedly to visit your child during the day, you will definitely see some disturbing things like teachers and their aids yelling at tiny little toddlers, babies being left to cry for hours with no one being attentive, and kids being yelled at for crying and being yelled at and possible physically abused during bathroom breaks. PLEASE PUT A HIDDEN CAMERA ON YOUR KID IF YOU DO NOT BELIEVE ME. I moved to Canada and schools are much more pleasant here, this school on the other hand had the worst two faced staff and were especially cruel to the special needs kids.
