What Parents Say
Reviews are predominantly positive, highlighting the campus facilities and quality of instruction. Most reviewers praise the beautiful grounds, staff, and educational experience. However, several reviews appear to be about the college itself rather than the early childhood education program specifically.
Stay away from the nasty older woman at the book store. I believe her name is Kathryn. Shes almost always there but when I see her, I leave. Just to avoid her. She works in customer service, but you would think she had a personal vendetta against you. She is honestly THE rudest and most impatient retail worker I’ve ever had the misfortune of encountering. She snapped at the customer in front of me in line, who was just there picking up their books. Then, snapped at ME when I told her “my order is ready for pick up” but her computer said it actually wasn’t. I went to show her my reciept on my phone and she screamed “I DONT CARE WHAT YOUR PHONE SAYS! It’s not here!”. Geez lady, I could’ve been checking a text or blocking a call, you don’t know, and you snap at students like that? You’re in customer service. It’s not like this little college bookstore gets THAT busy. I only ever see one other customer in there at a time and I promise, they’re much busier and more stressed than YOU! They’re not even being paid for their having to suffer you. So, if assisting people irritates you that much, find another job!
The staff are genuinely trying their best, but they are understaffed and underfunded. The quality of the education has mostly matched my experience at a 4 year university so far, but the enthusiasm from the students is much lower. There were times when I felt like I was the only student that cared, and that's not to the fault of the instructors. However, there were a handful of classes which felt far too elementary. I have heard classes at the Raymond campus are better. However, I was treated well. Ms. Blair made me fall in love with chemistry, and I didn't think that was possible.
People at the front desk can be impatient, which is frustrating when you are in your mid 20s and don't know what you're doing. You need someone patient with you when you're alone and not doing the typical straight out of highschool to college pipeline. But otherwise, I really enjoyed attending this college, the campus is pleasant and the education is quality. I was last attending in 2022 and I still remember and utilize a lot of what I had learned. I'm signing up for more classes today and looking forward to taking them.
Lady at the bookstore is EXTREMELY rude and swear she has anger issues. Honestly, she shouldn’t be working there at all. Really hopes she reads all these comments about her because she’s just an awful human being. She huffs and puffs and snatches customers bags. She rolls her eyes whenever she is asked for help. If she doesn’t like her job, why work there? Common sense. Will be talking to the supervisor or someone higher up because this is ridiculous.
DO NOT GO TO HINDS! They are so disorganized and have no clue how to assign your child to the appropriate classes. They placed my child into college algebra allowed her to take this class. she failed this class and we found out she was not supposed to be in this class to begin with. She had not met the requirements to go into college algebra. So this ruined her GPA and cost us $1900 since she lost her fasfa due to her grade since her hours were short and her gpa. They also had her in orientation so we go to sign her up for the only proctored exam they take . The spot was available for Saturday and she signs up online ,drives all the way to hinds just to find it completely CLOSED! So guess what another fail since that was the only test! These counselors are NOT qualified. No one EVER answers the phone. Who knows if there even is a dean of students because you can call and call and call and good luck getting through. Today the phones kept ringing and saying they were experiencing technical difficulties all day. My daughter was finally able to talk to the dean after weeks of calling not days weeks. The dean said to write a letter as to what all happened we still have not heard anything and she has lost all her grant money and is unable to get her grades released. My issue is one they need proper people to be advising these kids. They are costing time that you cannot get back and precious money! Two they need to drop that failed math class since it was their fault they placed her in this class and they were the ones that found that she was not even qualified to be in the class to begin with. So why punish her for their mistake? Third they need to make sure orientation did not affect her gpa as they allowed the test to be scheduled on a day they were closed. I had issues myself back in the day when I went here but this is terrible. Please please do your research on what classes your child needs. DO NOT rely on hinds employees to assist you ever. Be careful what classes you choose if you are taking online classes they do no instruct or teach any of it and some of those classes say hinds but they are at a different college so it makes it very difficult to get help. I pray that they know just how much they messed up my child’s transcripts.
