The site itself is beautiful, with a great setup, but a childcare center is about more than just the environment—it’s about supporting children and parents by providing a nurturing space for learning and growth. Unfortunately, my experience with the management at the Grossmont College Child Development Center was nothing short of disappointing. This center is supposed to help student-parents succeed in college by offering reliable childcare. However, that was not the case for me—quite the opposite. I initially received a call from Sheri informing me that a spot had opened for my son, but I was pressured to make an immediate decision. As a pre-med major, I needed time to tour the site and adjust my schedule, especially since science classes often run past their closing hours (4 PM on most days and 12 PM on Fridays). After explaining my situation, I was given a brief extension to decide. Within a week, I rearranged everything—my class schedule, my son’s pick-up arrangements—so he could attend. Then, just one week before the spring 2025 semester started, I received another call: they had decided to give the spot to a “priority” family instead. After all the stress of organizing my schedule, making childcare arrangements, and even informing my current daycare that my son would be leaving, I was abruptly told I no longer had a spot. As a single, low-income parent trying to pursue a demanding field like pre-med, this last-minute decision was not just frustrating but ethically unacceptable. Prospective parents, please be aware of how this center operates. Before choosing them, make sure you have a backup plan. I will be addressing this issue with the dean of Grossmont College. 1 star.
