What Parents Say
Garner Road Community Center is highly regarded as a long-standing community institution in Southeast Raleigh with strong family loyalty and multi-generational relationships. Parents and community members praise the facility for its supportive environment, swimming lessons, counselor training programs, and commitment to helping families through financial and personal hardships. The center extends its mission beyond childcare to serve as a refuge and community hub offering sports facilities, church services, and back-to-school support.
I have been coming to Garner Road Community Center since I was 5 and now Im in high school. I have learned how to swim, lead and earn lots of money helping out. I am a junior counselor and will be a paid counselor next year. I know more than anyone how much Ms Mo and this center has done for so many families. In order for parents to work on the weekends she watches children free of charge, she had paid for cars to get fixed and helped pay rent for people. When people lose loved ones and they cant afford a place to eat after the funeral I volunteer to help Ms Mo clean so the family pays little to nothing. This place means everything to me and my family and after I graduate from high school Im going to college…Ms Mo makes sure we push hard in academics.
Went in today to inquire about details to sell items at the advertised "flea market." The staff were with afterschool children at the table in the front area (stopped by around 4:45PM or so) and were working with them on what I would guess schoolwork/homework. I digress... I inquired about what the process was for being able to sell at the location. Ms. Mo stated that vendors start showing up on Saturdays at 7AM. She has them all sign a waiver stating "if someone were to sell something to a dissatisfied customer, that the Garner Road Community Center has no bearing on any sale and is not at fault for the dissatisfaction of the customer (to cover their rear, rightly so") There are no associated fees (aka FREE!) to be able to sell at GRCC and that it is billed essentially as a multi-family yard sale. You are given a parking lot spot to set up your items and that is all that will be provided. YOU will have to bring any and all else items in order to sell your items there, i.e. table, chairs, pop-up tent, etc. Anything goes as far as selling items with the exception of cooking food on-site and selling the cooked food-- that's a big no-no! Ms. Mo mentioned that you can arrive at any time on Saturday but that most of the foot traffic arrives at 9AM and stays until about 11AM. She also stated that no one has ever inquired about selling items on Sunday, BUT that they have a large Latinx crowd come through on Sundays. --------------------------------------------- I will make it a point to come back and update this review (if I can?!) when I have had a chance to actually show up and try to sell my items there so that I can review on how the entire process worked out for "your average Joe's" multi-family yardsale experience. YMMV and best of luck!
Thank you to Garner Community center for the back to school bookbags
We strive every day to serve our families and community to the very best of our ability. As a nonprofit organization located in Southeast Raleigh, our mission is rooted in commitment, compassion, and long-term dedication to the people we serve. This dedication is reflected in the strong relationships we have built over time, with more than 95 percent of our families remaining involved with us for over ten years. In four remarkable cases, parents who once grew up within our program now entrust us with the care and development of their own children, a powerful testament to the trust and impact we have cultivated across generations. Throughout our history, we have been in a crucial position to support families during some of their most difficult moments. Our role extends far beyond that of a typical center or program. We are a place of refuge, stability, and hope when families need it most. We genuinely desire the very best for every child in our care, and we consistently go above and beyond to ensure they have access to opportunities, support, and encouragement that help them thrive. Our work is driven by love for our community and a deep belief in the potential of every child and family we serve. our prayer is that people who see a need to help will help and those who have issues would consider helping rather than hurting. We apologize for any not so great experiences and we will continue to address those concerns while recognizing some reviews are totally false and created out of mischief.
I always have an amazing time here. Love it.
