We visited on Transfiguration Sunday 2025 and experienced what we would describe as a politically charged (in two places) sermon indicting the efforts of ICE and an interest in removing dangerous and illegal aliens. And in a not so veiled way indicted Chick-fil-A (their new neighbor to the south) and their conservative Christian attitude (it’s possible this was a misinterpretation on our part but don’t believe so, I believe the sermon and service was recorded. You may be able to watch online). It’s my thought that a church should be careful about conveying a politically charged message from the pulpit. I would be surprised if the laity of this church, in one of the most conservative states in the nation agrees with this pastor’s position. I believe this is increasingly common from the ELCA.
We have been members of First Lutheran for about 20 years. This is such a lovely group of people that are faithful and generous. Music has always been an important ministry at First and continues to be a wonderful part of the worship. First has hosted the All Lutheran presentation of Handel's Messiah for over 90 years. It is the 2nd longest presentation of the Messiah in the U.S. Pastor Rob Martin is very intelligent and an excellent theologian. He is well respected in the community. He is open and welcomes discussion and exploration of faith.

Every year, First Lutheran Church of Tulsa stages Handel's Messiah! They have a new choir director & this year, you'll hear the difference! Confident soloists, right on key & enjoying their work! Kudos to the new choir director for giving her choir whatever it is to make them thrive!
