This review is for Jung Su class and even more specifically about Master Joe Bui. You'll be hard pressed to find more dedicated, knowledgeable and motivating instructor in this area for any sport or activity. He's direct in his communication with both kids and adults, sometimes even blunt, but then I've seen him several times get the best out of the kids who didn't believe in themselves. The way he can motivate kids who have trouble believing they can rise up to the challenge and get them to not only meet the challenge but excel in it is really inspiring. Of course they all need to put in the work and that's something else that Master Joe is humble enough to stress out. It's the importance of daily practice and always going back to the very basics because you believe you can do it better than yesterday. For someone that's been doing this actively for over 30 years that's saying something to his level of dedication. The martial arts itself is very unique. As far as I know it originated in this area and is unique for this area. Founded by Master Brian Costello it's been evolving into what it is today since the 80s, I believe. Today it's an MMA sport with a strong emphasis on traditional forms. A combination of boxing, jujitsu, grappling, kick-boxing and Muay Thai styles but still evolving. It teaches hand to hand combat and self defense in a low pressure environment but with high expectations. Belts are always and only given when the student is truly ready to take the test and come through. That can take months or years, depending on the level and individual commitment. Again, there's a strong emphasis, probably strongest, on the forms aspect, the simulated fights and students are expected to show self improvement every week. Really, it's this self improvement philosophy that I feel sets this place apart from the others. Master Joe takes a personal interest in seeing everyone progress and get better and will spend time during each class to advise and coach students individually.
This place was just awful. It is very small and ventilation was not great. I was sweating and felt nauseous at times. They expected parents to sit on a small section of wooden bleachers, packed like sardines. Seating for swim teams and spectators are on deck level which makes the deck itself feel cramped. The pool was very shallow and something our tall swimmers and older swimmers struggled with. The 2 positives - the pool water ans deck area was warm enough for swimmers. Restrooms - felt very cold. Parents were not allowed to hangout in the lobby and therefore were forced to go inside even when their kids were not swimming or go outside in the freezing cold. Hope this swimming pool gets a major upgrade soon!
We went for my daughter’s swim meet this weekend and found the facility to be a very nice family recreation center. The have a skate park, basketball, racket ball and a nice sized swimming pool. I was impressed with their facilities for ADA as well. I highly recommend as a good winter facility to get your workout on.
We were just walking on trails in the woods and some of it on a bike path.
Nice and well-managed facility, good for families. There are lots of options for activities, sports, various courts, pools, community centers, etc. There are a few vending machines, but not all work well. The front desk ( enterance) , don't expect too much from them!
