The sermons are middling at best. The church politics are choking. The pastor snickers at his paid employees during the service. These are only the things I've personally seen during my few visits over the past six months or so. There's more to be said if you ask around, but I can't personally verify those things. After 14 years of fairly regular attendance (and working exclusively with them as a sponsored missionary), I was not able to attend for about a year due to work but I have been trying to attend more recently. After a few visits, it sadly looks like I cannot, in good faith, recommend supporting this current church body in any capacity at this time. The general people are amazing, I will miss them, but current leadership provides a net negative to furthering a loving Gospel. Please look elsewhere, as Tallahassee has many homes of spiritual fulfillment that are better than this one.
I am a visitor looking for an LCMS church for my 36 year old son and his family (wife, 8 year old son and newborn son). This is the 3rd time I have been there since their new pastor arrived. My son so far likes the church as do I. So far we have attended the 10:30 traditional service. Hmmm... not agreeing with what the person below me has said at all.
Incredibly, a previous poor review has been removed. However, it should and will be reiterated as many times as it is necessary that the VPK program at this school maintains a mediocre learning environment, at best. This mediocrity is related to several factors, one of which is an emphasis on testing. Children will have plenty of years in school to be endlessly assessed, and YES, there are required assessments linked to the federal VPK program BUT they are NOT the same as the "high stakes" testing that goes on in middle and high school. The gravity placed on testing at Epiphany would make you think that the very continued existence of humanity depends on whether a kid can count to 10. And this is not a trifling matter: my son's classroom was a toxic environment with nagging, stressed teachers. I personally witnessed them breaking the spirit of children. And while I am at it, you should know that the director of the preschool has changed, but that many of the same VPK teachers are still there, and you should also know that with at least one (of the two) lead teachers, the most salient classroom management techniques employed are nagging, berating, and public humiliation. *On a sunnier note* my daughter's 2 year old classroom was fantastic, because she had an excellent, hard working, positive, kind, and caring teacher.
