What Parents Say
East Orange Head Start receives mixed reviews. Most parents praise the learning environment, friendly staff, and quality of the free program. However, several parents report significant administrative issues including poor communication, unresponsive staff, and difficult application processes.
The Center have a very. Ice environment and the children learn a lot . !!! Excellent customer services with ours social workers and all the coworkers inside the Center.
Applying to this school has been the worst experience ever. I’ve provided every document possible to show that this is my child and her “proof of age”. All they tell me is that it’s a long process. Mind you if I didn’t call I would never know what my daughters application is missing. Ms.Donado was very helpful at first then It’s like she got aggravated meanwhile she’s the one telling me my child’s vaccination papers are her proof of age. When I call her she acts like she doesn’t remember myself or my child’s name. Her exact words wore “there’s a lot of people applying with my daughters name.” 😞 I used to be a childcare director and the first rule was to always make your parents and the child feel important as if you knew them. On top of it all I tried applying for a teacher position just for the lady Ms. Avis Mcwhite to tell me basically she can’t help me if I can’t find the application. Meanwhile all they had to do was send me a link or offer for me to come in and help. Shortage of teachers yeaaaa right. Now I have delivered a baby and dealing with a lot since my baby is in the NICU with no care for my daughter. I see why this place has bad reviews 🤦🏾♀️.
The best free program, good environment for children
My daughter is on the waiting list and they haven't even called me yet its been 2 months and when I call they never answer the phone.. I won't put my daughter in a school where they can't even be responsible enough to answer the phone.. Imagine they're like that with the phones so what makes us parents think that they're like that with our kids.. I pass...!! Don't trust this school at all
Recently came home from Afghanistan and move to Florida with my husband and child. I understood that I could not get my daughter in to the VPK program due to the cut off date so Head Start was my second option. I called for a week and a half to get an appointment and no one called me back or returned any of my messages people kept giving me the same number that didn't work until a woman from the Head Start Division said that she would email them as well as their supervisor. I waited until the following week and do you think anyone responded to me NO . I got feed up and decided to go the Head Start Division in the Family Services Department where the lady said she remembered me calling from last week and said I need TO PRACTICE PATENCE WHEN GETTING FREE STUFF! Really? When she called the numbers they didn't work OF COURSE! so she finally got an touch with someone from using a cell number and I was told to come in on a certain date yet I got no set time and the guy who set the date with me wouldn't even get on the phone to let me know what it is to bring or anything the lady at the Head Division gave me a list and then proceeded to say not to forget anything, because she doesn't want to get a call from him saying how I went through going up division all that and didn't have everything I needed for the appointment. Just a bad experience all around. I got treated better in war time in the home of another's country, I come home to being treated as a charity case and should just be thankful for bad attitudes and unprofessionalism just because something is free! War Vet or not no one should be treated like that! and I will be writing another review as to how my interview went. I pray a member of the Head Start Organization will see this and make changes.
