What Parents Say
Early Head Start - Garland receives mostly positive feedback, with parents praising the staff's kindness, free services for low-income families, and long-term developmental benefits for children. However, two parents expressed significant concerns about classroom learning opportunities, parental responsibilities, hygiene practices, and staff training.
The staff at this location are very very nice .My son went there when he was 3 yrs old .He went there for two years. They were really kind and helpful. As the first child we got all the guidance for his growth .Now my son is 10 years old and definitely a good start has definitely benefited a lot .I highly recommend this location.
Excellent program!! For Families that can't afford daycare cost! This program it's free! It accepts babies from 6wks till 3yr. Then transition to the Regular Headstart @ Walnut st. For 3yr/5yr. There is a waiting list, So if your interested need to act now.
I am not comfortable rating this school with even 1 star. First impression is perhaps the most important impression. What I've seen is beyond disappointing. Headstart was once considered a valuable and much needed early learning opportunity for low-income children. Kids that attended head start often performed well once mainstreamed to the public school system. Perhaps the most disappointing aspect is the parent's duties under the disguise of volunteerism. Parents are to prepare the tables for breakfast, supervise toothbrushing and handwashing, stay in the classroom and teach their child to spell their name, sweep and clean tables. Also, most disturbing is that parents are given sheets and blankets to take home and wash them. This is in my opinion a very unsantitary options and a potential for spreading bacteria. Learning opportunities appear to few at best, children participate in multiple incidents of unstructure play and 1 unenthusiastic storytelling/reading session. The one glaring question I have is what training is provided to the instructors in teaching methodologies for toddlers and pre-kindergarten and kindergarten childen that will provide them with a true, valuable and much needed head start.
Good teacher! Mrs. Alyssa and Mrs. Latanya are awesome teachers!
Am proud to have my kids there
