What Parents Say
Discovery World Academy receives overwhelmingly positive reviews from most parents, who praise the caring staff, nurturing environment, and children's enthusiasm for attending. However, one detailed negative review raises serious concerns about health issue management, billing practices, inappropriate teacher conduct, and how complaints are handled.
My daughter has been attending Discovery World Academy for two years. She had never attended daycare. The director, Mabel, assured me that my daughter would adjust and she would be just fine. I'm so happy that I trusted Mabel and her Amazing teacher's with my daughter. They offer a loving, nurturing, and inviting learning environment. My daughter asks to go preschool every day. I am so thankful that I found Discovery World Academy. If you are looking for childcare for your child Discovery World Academy is wonderful!!!
My daughter has been here for an entire year. The staff is wonderful and caring. My daughter is extremely happy and loves it here. As soon as I drop her off in the morning, she runs to our teachers by the way she’s about to be two. It’s a very clean facility.
Take heed - DO NOT SEND YOUR KIDS HERE!! My three children have been going here for the last 8 months (2 school age girls and my infant son). We have run into small issues over the months, but chose to overlook them for the convenience of the location. Some examples: my son has gotten ringworm twice. They told my husband that he gave it to him with his dirty hands (he is a plumber, but we are all very clean people). We paid for the week on Monday, my son stayed home for 3 days because of a mild fever. I brought him back on Friday, and before I could get him out of the car, they met me in the parking lot and gave me a hard time about paying, without even checking to see that we already paid. They charged me an extra $50 for bringing my son 30 minutes early. They've used my son's supplies on other children, and when we raised concern (and caught them red-handed) they acted like we were crazy. My girls caught lice, and we paid $500 to have them treated. On three occasions after that, they sent them home for lice, but they didn't have even a trace. My girls were coming home saying that kids were cursing at them and bullying them on the playground. If we told the teachers, they said that it was taken care of. It continued to happen daily, and the same kids were allowed to come back. I was picking up my children, and another kid told me my daughter snuck a lollipop. The teacher told him, "snitches get stitches." I personally encourage my kids to follow the rules and let adults know when rules are broken. I don't appreciate my 7 year old being taught ghetto sayings and philosophies like snitches get stitches. When my husband tried to talk to the office about their disciplinary actions, the owner told us that it was a part of the teacher's culture and she didn't have a problem with it. He told them it wasn't in accordance with their disciplinary manual, she proceeded to tell us that we aren't welcome back effective immediately. I will say that there are a few nice teachers there, but honestly, they run this school like it's straight out of the hood. Their toys and equipment are old and look like they got them off the side of the road. If you don't care about how your kids are treated and you are okay with being chastised for raising any concerns, then this might be the place for you. I personally am happy to spend my almost $400 a week to have my kids treated with respect in a clean and safe and prosperous environment.
I have been bringing my 3 children to Discovery world academy for many years now. I have used this location as well as their secondary location on shell point Rd in Ruskin. All the teachers staff and owners are great people with big hearts. They have worked with me and my children through the best and worst of times. They make my kids excited to go to "school." And they have helped them excel in many educational areas. I would recommend this place to everyone no matter how big or small your children. I am comforted to say I am confident mine are always safe and well taken care of when I have to go to work.
Owners are RUDE!!!!. Ms. Mable called the first day and ask that I come get my son. When I got there he was crying. She had a video of him running around the room crying. Ask for that video 2 wks ago still haven't received it. Al called Tuesday and told me to bring underwear for my son because his staff can't be changing him. I told him I would. He then called my husband at his job to say the same thing. Then told him that I was giving his staff a hard time. I did no such thing. Parents please be take the time to check on ur kids once in a while to see how they're being treated. The music they play for nap time is very loud. I've seen kids sleeping next to garbage cans in the hallway. Thursday Feb 14th I went in to pick up my son things. I asked Al if he spoke with me on tueday, what did he have to call my husband for. He told me to leave his building or he would call the cops on me in front of his staff member Ms. Tracy. I then asked her if that was necessary, she didn't say anything. His reply was " I don't work for her, she works for me, I'm the boss. I had my kids with me so I left. Again parents be aware of where you have your kids. I don't think their licenses are up to date. This is 1 school I would tell parents not to send their kids to.
