What Parents Say
This is a community recreation center, not a daycare. Most reviews (8 of 10) are highly positive, praising clean facilities, reasonable prices, and diverse amenities including pools, courts, and playgrounds. However, two negative reviews cite strict enforcement of pool rules and an alleged discrimination incident.
My son and his friends experience a discrimination issue here at this place on the basketball court. The young kid stated his father own the place and is of African/Nigerian heritage. The kid try to make them feel less fortunate and let them know they was not welcome there because they seem to look poor. One of the kids that was with the owner son made a hand gun gestures in my son face making him feel unsafe. They immediately started questioning my son and his friends asking where they were from Harrisburg. When they were leaving the owner son stated go take care of your kids and they don’t have any kids. I’m assuming he thinks they are dead beats dad. I never heard of this place until this happen. I’m assuming this is supposed to be a safe place for all people of color and ages, however it did not seem like that today. I would not recommend or support this place.
The park is very good and well maintained. We went there on New Year day so the building was closed but our kids have enjoyed the community park rides. They have well separated court for tennis, soccer, swimming and volleyball. The park is also easily accessible to all the local residents and well organised. We have been there for a hour or more but we have enjoyed the time with the kids after the Hershey chocolate world.
Leisure pool, outdoor pool and play areas were immaculate. Has locker rooms, showers and clean restrooms. Life guards were kind and alert. Great place.
Infant floaties are not allowed anymore unless they are clear! The audacity! I’ve never seen a clear infant floaty and they couldn’t tell us where to get one and the baby isn’t big enough for arm floaties. So now we have to play pass the baby just for the baby to enjoy the pool because normal infant floats will get you kicked out if they are not CLEAR! Lifeguards were no help they didn’t care to help us for a 1 year old. Apparently being safe in an infant floaty isn’t allowed but a baby slipping through your hands while in the pool is apparently safer. Boogie boards and noodles are allowed and they aren’t clear. The reasoning we were told is because it takes up too much space and the life guards can’t see the bottom of the pool. This makes sense for adults but as a parent, infants need to be safe too and this was not worth the money until infants can be safe I won’t waste my money and it’s a shame because it such a nice pool and my kids love it and I travel two hours to come here. Image below shows some that aren’t allowed.
The pool has been a refreshing get away for the kids, they absolutely love it. I wish the hours were more often. With winter months the "park and playground" get quite old... LoL When they originally started with the indoor we were excited. There must have been issues with keeping people on scheduling or hiring I'm not sure but the hours for the indoor pool were varying all over the place, we would have kept our membership but with the hours it was really difficult to make that choice. So we do our day passes. Great place, and the hours appear steady this moment , so we might renew our membership again. I read the one review and I'm quite shocked. We've been going to the rec center since they're reopening and we have not experienced any issues with the pool indoor or outdoor. I've never even seen alcohol on any spot of the establishment. If there was alcohol I would hope that someone would be able to step up to the plate to let the management know the situation. Cuz I would, and that would be the appropriate thing to do, because it's not my expectation really that management would consistently and constantly be watching because that would be difficult in any situation or any facilities. A community rec center is a responsibility and a representation of a community.
