What Parents Say
DECS Childcare School receives overwhelmingly positive reviews from parents who praise the caring staff, director Ms. Julie, and well-rounded educational approach. However, one detailed negative review alleges neglect of a child with special feeding needs and poor communication between staff and parents.
tldr; Would not recommend. Daycare neglects children and communication is horrible. If I could give this daycare zero stars I would. When we first started coming here, we loved it. The teachers were nice and everything. My son started coming here back in September at age 2. We had no problems when he was in the 2-year-old room. But as soon as he went to the 3-year-old room after he turned 3 in April, everything changed. So, first here is a little backstory about my son. He is 3 and is still drinking out of a bottle because he won’t eat any solid food or drink from a sippy cup or a regular cup. He is currently in feeding therapy. When we started coming to this daycare, I gave them 2 notes one from his pediatrician and one from his feeding therapist stating that he needs to drink from a bottle to get the nutrients he needs since he won’t eat anything or drink anything and to keep trying to get him to eat and drink from a sippy. While he was in the 2-year-old room, the teachers made sure that this all happened, as soon as he went to the 3’s it stopped, they ignored the notes, well at least the director did, because when I said something to the teachers, they told me that Julie said something different. They straight up neglected my child and didn’t feed him. There were quite a few times I would take him to school at 8am and pick him up at 4pm and his bottles would be BONE DRY. When I asked why, Julie made some excuse saying, “Oh, they probably washed and dried it out.” But there were a bunch of times she would also tell me that they can’t wash bottles because they don’t have the time. She also ignored me about my son trying to drink from the sippy cup, instead she kept giving him an open cup, when he didn’t really know how to drink from a sippy cup. Friday, I took my son out of the daycare for good, because they finally pulled the last straw. Thursday, my son had stuff in his tear ducts so because of that I took him to see his pediatrician and they said he was fine and that he could go to school the next day, so I got a doctor’s note. Well, this morning me and my husband dropped him and the note off at school and 30 mins later I got a phone call from Julie saying, “So I need you to come pick him up because he has a runny nose and a cough (which he didn’t). The doctor’s note also doesn’t say anything so I called the doctor’s office and they said they don’t print doctor's notes, that what you gave us might be a fraudulent doctor's note. Not saying that you wrote a fraudulent doctor's note.” There was also one time they told me not to talk to the teachers about any problems I had about something to do with my kid, that I needed to talk to the director or co-director because I might make someone quit. They are also so bad at communicating with each other and with their parents. There were times that none of the teachers/directors knew what was going on with my child and they never told me anything when I picked him up. My son will NEVER come back to this horrible daycare again. If you want a good, reliable, communicative daycare then I would NOT recommend this daycare. Please DO NOT send your kid here, THEY ARE THE WORST!!!!!
I have nothing but great things to say about Decs. Yes, it's an older building but it is very safe and the teachers are amazing. My daughter's teacher is wonderful as well. She is stern (but in a nice way) at times, yet loving at the same time. My little one loves going to school every day! The price is not too bad, either. I feel very confident sending her there every day. I also feel very welcome when I go to the school to visit or pick her up. EDIT - We are still using DECS but now mainly for their summer day camp and the after school program sporadically during the school year. We still love the staff and my daughter still loves going!!
The infant teachers are wonderful, they try the best that they can do to take care of your child. The director takes on way to many babies for these women to care for, which leads to your child not being properly cared for. In my opinion all the children are looked at as dollar signs to the owner. She has every excuse in the book if you come to her with a problem concerning your child. Management is a complete disappointment. I would not recommend this place to any parents looking for childcare. When myself and other parents are saying your child will be behind in developing. PLEASE BELIEVE it!! Cause it is true!! I’m sure all the teachers are not even certificed as daycare instructors. The director had her 16 year old daughter taking care of kids over the summer. The price is great but it’s not worth your child attending .
My son has been here since he was 4 months old. All the teachers are great and take great care of my son. They provide a daily report on how the day went. I have never had a problem with anyone there. Great daycare.
We have sent all four of our kiddos there, and we couldn't have made a better decision. We we're actually referred to the daycare from an assistant principal at Clark Creek. She explained to me that the most well rounded kids she saw in kindergarten came from DECS- no joke. I was very skeptical, but I respected what this professional told me and decided to give it a shot. They provide structure, have a huge shadded yard for the kids to play in- and the playground is hidden from the main busy road, and very low employee turnover. The breakfasts and lunches are healthy and fulfilling. The camp field trips are fun and always a learning experience- even our now middle schooler asks if he can go. The director, Ms. Julie, is like family. She loves each of her precious students as if they were her own. She is protective, concerned, an effective communicator, and clearly a dedicated educator. We have been to a lot of different daycares and this one surpasses the others we've been to like Goddard, Discovery, private church daycares, etc. I remember how skeptical I was, but I cannot forget what that vice principal told me and how true her words were. Best decision ever!
