What Parents Say
Danville Family YMCA receives consistently high praise for its modern facilities, scenic river views, and friendly staff. Members appreciate the variety of amenities including pools, fitness classes, gym equipment, and a cafe. The facility is well-maintained and offers good value for a regional YMCA.
I have a partial scholarship which was still a lot. Mine will be ending soon and I will not renew. They don’t have very much variety of equipment. I brought my 12 year old with me for the 2nd time. He has a mild disability but is very high functioning. He wants to use the equipment. He used the rowing machine with me then he tried an elliptical. We both tried 2 different bikes but couldn’t get them adjusted short enough for us and no one offered any assistance. But when my son was on the treadmill this older woman said we had to leave because he can’t hop from machine to machine. She said he was playing on the equipment. I was right there next to him. We were both trying to find a machine we could actually do without severe pain. If he was playing then obviously I was too. I have stage 4 cancer and I have a lot of muscles mass loss in my legs because of loosing weight so quickly (80 lbs in 3 months) and I have nerve damage from chemo. Also this is the first YMCA I’ve ever been too that doesn’t include any training sessions with membership. South Boston includes 2. Eden YMCA allows children 10 and older to use weight machines with supervision. Danville also doesn’t participate in the live strong program that helps cancer patients with exercise or the diabetes program that other YMCA’s have. I would think with the casino here you would want to expand what you offer and equipment. You’re not really family friendly because once the child ages out of childwatch the only thing children can do is the pool.
Beautiful facilities, nice gym equipment and a perfect look out onto the river my only general complaint is I wish they had more open gym for basketball. Overall an extremely positive experience.
Love gym, however needs more open swim hours
This might be the nicest YMCA I’ve ever been in? Beautiful view of the river if you’re on the treadmills. Love the coffee bar and cafe area!
Dont ever leave reviews but just went into this YMCA to purchase a guest day pass and the front desk said that they don’t do that there. Somehow different than every other YMCA in the country I guess. Wouldnt be so bad if they didn’t have attitude about it like I was an idiot for asking.
