What Parents Say
Connecticut Friends School receives nearly universal praise from parents, with 9 out of 10 recent reviews giving 5-star ratings. Parents consistently highlight the warm, hands-on director Linda, caring Reggio Emilia-trained teachers, nature-based curriculum with extensive outdoor play, and strong sense of community. One parent raised concerns about the school's COVID-era refund policy.
My family and I love this school. The Director, Linda, is the warmest woman you will ever meet. She is unbelievably caring and hands-on (you will find her in the classroom on the floor with the kids most days). She has done a great job rebuilding the school and community after COVID. The teachers are also all wonderful and it’s been amazing to watch my son grow and develop under their care. This is a special little school!
CFS has given our son so much love and warmth. The teachers in the Willows class, Ms. LeighAnne and Ms. Donna, are two of the loveliest people, and they treat the children with so much kindness and patience. When we mention their names to our son in the evening, he always responds with a big smile and a chuckle. Ms. Linda, the director of the school, has done an amazing job with everything. There is a new community garden, the children are hatching little chicks, and there are multiple pizza parties throughout the school year. She has created a truly special place for the children. Finally, we love that our son goes to a preschool set in the woods. There is something magical about watching your child play in a playground with trees and nature all around. We can’t say enough good things about the school and the teachers. We were so lucky to have found this place.
Since the new administration has been in place (fall ‘22), this school has become a source of community for our toddler and family. The teachers are caring and Reggio trained, the director spends so much time with the kids + cares deeply about their wellbeing and the families involved are caring and genuinely friendly. It is such a special place full of special people and I am so thrilled by our toddler’s excitement to go to school every morning. He has learned so much about being kind to his friends, about nature and has become so empathetic under the care of the CFS teachers & director. We feel so grateful that our son will get to learn from this amazing team from the 2s class through to the 5s! Their extended day until 3pm also makes this a fantastic and much cheaper alternative to daycare if you have a flexible afternoon work schedule.
Wonderful, warm and engaging teachers. Linda the director is so kind, thoughtful, communicative, and dedicated to our young learners. A wonderful community of families, everyone is so friendly and welcoming. Flexible scheduling is available with 5 day options, lunch bunch, and extended day options. Children engage in outdoor play, music, creative art projects, dancing, gardening, feeding the birds, reading etc!
I'm hesitant to write a review because CFS is is our hidden gem, but I'll spill the beans because some secrets are just too good not to share. My twins have thrived under the loving oversight of their teachers Ms. Annette & Ms. Noel in the Oaks Room this year. It's a creative wonderland of the Reggio Emilia approach to learning; which bends and evolves in all the right ways to harness a child's growth and individuality. Their new preschool director, Linda, is an angel sent down from the heavens. She has dedicated her life to the school and is one of the warmest, most approachable people you'll ever meet. The Quaker values: Simplicity, Peace, Integrity, Community, Equality and Stewardship (SPICES) are what we all want for our children, but are too often not at the forefront of learning. Many preschools seem to have gotten lost along the way, with too many arbitrary rules and a lack of any ethos. We have Halloween parades, pajama day, potlucks and messy nature adventure! All the good stuff with some very qualified teachers. CFS is thriving in this new post-covid chapter and I am so glad my kids get to be a part of it!
