What Parents Say
Congregation Ohav Shalom Nursery School receives mixed reviews. Most reviews praise the welcoming congregation, strong leadership, and quality preschool teachers, but two parents reported serious concerns including a child's severe anxiety after enrollment and frequent illness outbreaks among students.
I enrolled my daughter two years ago. On the first day, she seemed happy. By the second day, she was clinging to me, and by the third, she was crying, anxious, and even vomiting from stress. I immediately canceled her registration. While she has difficulty expressing herself with words, I am certain she witnessed something violent there. Even now, if we drive past the building, she becomes visibly stressed and anxious.
Ohav is a mecca for sickness. Upper management have no consideration for the families that line their pockets. My child and other children alike are contracting things such as the flu, rsv, hand foot and mouth disease & others like such. The owner will deny these claims though it's fairly evident. Never have I had to call out of work so many times to care for my child due to routine sickness & I'm still required to pay the daily rate. Children should be monitored more closely & if nothing changes I will be pulling my child all together.
Open minded synogogue with great kid services many times per month. Friendly attendees of all levels of devotion who are welcoming to you no matter your background or Jewish knowledge. Rabbi is amazing.
A welcoming, warm and inclusive Conservative congregation that appeals to all: singles, couples, families and seniors. The two rabbis are beloved by the congregants and are actively involved in pastoral care, education and traditional prayer services. The congregation is actively involved in social action, volunteering at multiple social action activities. Congregants and their families have been members for decades, attesting to its great appeal.
I grew up in this shul. And while I've been away for many years, I've touched base off and on, and watched it grow. I'd be a part of this amazing community if I lived in the Albany area. Great rabbis, great lay leadership, committed regulars. Every town should have a place like this.
