I stumbled across the COMO (Stonington Community Center) Sip 'n Spin one-night class quite a while ago and have gone to two of them. This is a perfect, no pressure way to create some pottery pieces and find out if you love pottery. The instructor throws a quick piece to give you the general idea and some pointers and goes over the tools available. The class is only two hours long but you get to make up to three pieces while you are there. If you feel like you messed up, no big deal! You can toss the clay in a pile and start fresh on a new piece. This is a bring your own wine (and glasses) event. Another classmate brought cheese and shared with all. Sharissa was our instructor and she was so cool. She assisted as needed but the creations were our own, and filled in the bottom of my "plate" in the pictures so I would have a completed piece. Finished items get picked up after they are fired. We loved this class and will be back!
I have nothing but positive things to say about the COMO programs and staff. I was hoping to find a program that would meet the social emotional needs of my preschool age daughter and it has far exceeded my expectations. I am so grateful to Ms. Priscilla, Ms. Olga, and Ms. Crystal-Ann for helping to provide a safe, supportive, and fun learning environment for both of my children while navigating the challenges of this pandemic.
Well, I have shopped at the COMO Thrift Shop many times before today, and for some reason today I removed the COMO price tag from a store price tag on some items, and much to my surprise and disappointment, COMO had MARKED UP their price from the store price. I know that all $$$$ go to the activities of COMO, but I remain disappointed in that tactic. I can afford to pay the price, but I suspect there are folks that shop at COMO out of real financial insecurity and they should not have to pay more than they would pay in a retail outlet. (sad face)!
Our community is so lucky to have the Como! Our son was already enrolled in pre-school when we found out that our 1st grader would only be returning to school 2 days a week in the fall. The Como moved QUICKLY to put a distance learning program together to give the older kids support, playtime and activities during their "distance learning" days. We couldn't have gotten through the last several months as smoothly as we have without the support the Como has offered!
Everyday, rain, snow, wind, sunshine - you will find a great community of paddle/platform tennis players out having fun, learning, laughing and expressing so much gratitude for the Pros who run the place and the clinics! Jerry Albrikes, a national paddle champion and Chris O'Brian, a former tennis player and coach bring top notch instruction, clinics, leagues and tournaments to this amazing tennis and paddle tennis center. Anyone who is wanting to learn is welcomed; players of all levels are gracious and open to play. Jerry's wife Beth helps with, and also does an amazing job of organizing all the playing opportunities. I've been lucky enough to be a part of several tennis communities and had excellent instruction from top coaches but Jerry and Chris' instruction and drills top anything I've ever experienced. I hear the same from nearly every player in this community. Drop by and see for yourself - you will be very happy you did!
