What Parents Say
This facility is highly rated for its comprehensive amenities and welcoming community atmosphere. Parents consistently praise the friendly, helpful staff and diverse programs suitable for all ages. The pool area, fitness classes, and recreational programs are particular highlights.
This center is popular with locals. The staff’s friendliness is what really sets it apart. I dropped in for the first time on Saturday just to enjoy the steam room, sauna, and outdoor jacuzzi, and it was the perfect experience.
I’m writing this review to address repeated inconsistencies with the pool rules, specifically in the baby pool, which require immediate attention from management. We have visited the Lafayette Rec Center many times where children under 5 were permitted to swim while parents supervised safely from the sidelines, and it was never questioned. However, right after I underwent surgery and was physically unable to get into the water, we were suddenly told that my children could not swim unless an adult was in the pool with them. The rule was enforced completely differently on this visit than on previous visits, and there was no effort to provide reasonable accommodation for my post-surgical limitations. This raises serious concerns regarding ADA compliance, equal access, and nondiscrimination for individuals with temporary or permanent disabilities. To be clear, my children are both strong, independent swimmers who can swim laps, and yet a rigid age-based restriction was imposed with no assessment of actual ability or safety. This approach does not align with evidence-based aquatics safety practices, and inconsistent enforcement undermines trust and public confidence. Many modern facilities—including the Louisville Rec Center—use skill-based supervision rules, allowing competent swimmers to be monitored from the pool deck. This model prioritizes real safety and respects developmental differences rather than relying on arbitrary age cutoffs. This experience at Lafayette was deeply disappointing, particularly given the circumstances. Families should be able to rely on clear, consistently enforced policies and reasonable accommodations, especially when medical and post-surgical needs are documented and communicated. We value local community resources and want to support them, but policy clarity and equitable treatment are essential. I am requesting direct follow-up from the Aquatics Supervisor or facility leadership to clarify: 1) What the actual written and enforceable policy is for the baby pool 2) Why the policy was enforced inconsistently across visits and staff members 3) How the facility plans to ensure compliance with ADA reasonable accommodation requirements for patrons with temporary or permanent disabilities 4) Whether Lafayette will consider updating to a skill-based supervision model consistent with safety standards used at the Louisville Rec Center and other modern recreation centers. Thank you. I look forward to a response from leadership only.
Lots of weights, cardio equipment. Lots of fitness classes to choose from. 2 nice hot tubs, 1 is adult only (outside). Kiddy pool is heated nicely for comfort. Lap pool is cooler for exercise. Upstairs track is only 1/16th mile and has tight turns.
Awesome establishment with many amenities for a great price. Gym (weights), basketball courts, cardio floor, indoor/outdoor hot tubs, full swimming pool, kids pool & waterpark, steam & sauna. Not connected, but sick soccer fields and skate park directly next door. Always leave here better than I arrived.
The sports programs here are amazing! They have something for all ages. The staff is incredible and they make the place feel like a community. This is honestly the best rec center I've been to based on how warm and friendly everything feels ❤️
