What Parents Say
CHARCAS is a cultural heritage site in Quebradillas that recreates Puerto Rican jíbaro (rural) life from the 1900s. Visitors praise it as a beautiful, free family experience that celebrates Puerto Rican traditions with authentic architecture, local food, music, and crafts. The site operates year-round and hosts an annual Fiesta Jíbara festival.
It was a little run down since it wasn’t a holiday, so nothing was set up except for the house. The place is lovely on its own, but I would recommend visiting during a holiday weekend when they have festivities (I believe during Christmas). However, if you just want to explore and take pictures of the houses, it’s still definitely worth going.
Go back in time to the 1930-1940 and see how our ancestors lived. I learned that the barraca were used when hurricanes came since the winds weren’t able to damaged it. They would gate hurricane information via newspaper or word of mouth. Some learned the news in the mist of the hurricane.
Super beautiful awesome place that represents our Puertorrican culture in the 1900’s . Although it is only used for Christmas time is there year round and well kept, we went on the weekday and it was drizzling and no one who attends it seemed to be guarding it or there, anyways gorgeous place, don’t litter and careful driving the road which they are tiny.
They had busses and we decided to walk. It was doable but tiring
Exelent expirience
