After calling in and leaving her meeting.Ms. Juliane Morey the membership director was kind enough to allow myself and my brother to be guests for today! The rep at the front could’ve sent me home but she came out right on time to allow us inside this time. Had fun playing basketball with my younger brother and the other players in the gym. A great workout that almost made me want to get a membership again. I appreciate the hospitality, especially those who helped me today.
We are National members. We went in and then left without, working-out. Workout area required a card to access gym and they want a personal possession for the card exchange; such as your car keys which in our case, gives access to everything we have locked in our traveling trailer, but we did an exchange to go in. Also, no access to saunas because, as employees at front desk said, “It’s for Board Members Only.”
Quite weirded out by the visit I made this morning. I have a membership but I usually use the Carlisle YMCA- went to this one because I was closer. When I got there, was informed by the front desk that my scan card wouldn't work. In order to get in I had to TURN OVER MY CAR KEYS?? I was very uncomfortable with this request, but I'd already driven the whole way and wanted to work out. Got an RFID card to access the gym, but couldn't access locker room. Meaning I couldn't lock up my bag or shower afterwards. Its possible I could have asked for access, but I was already so uncomfortable. I feel like that policy is crazy. And my keys were just left on a small table behind the desk- anyone who got behind the front desk could have simply taken them. Other gyms I've been to ask for your ID, which I am happy to hand over as long as its secure. This just doesn't make sense to me, especially because I have a membership, and it feels like a huge risk to my personal property. Not going back.
Amazingly, I've never had a membership to YMCA before but we took the tour for our family. Lots to do, from swimming, weight training, aerobics, yoga, gym and programs (classes) for all ages. We got memberships for 1 adult, 1 Senior Citizen and 1 child under 13 and it was really affordable, consider what all you get to do there.
One front desk staff member lady was very condescending and ego tripping on me over an extremely minor misunderstanding of which door to go through… *Update haven’t seen that lady since and everyone else is awesome!* In another instance I forgot my slides and newly purchased shirt, I called in to ask my items to be placed in the lost and found, they had closed or refused to answer phones 10 minutes early(before closing). I call back next day, the guy can’t leave the front desk and had no other staff that could verify my items just downstairs, understandable but disappointing. 2 days later I get a call from the fitness director telling me my shirt has been stolen but my slides are here if I want them. Turns out they were stolen as well. I’ll always appreciate all YMCAs as a resource nevertheless.
