We met with Kat to set my father up with rehab and LT care, she was soooo welcoming and knowledgeable that there was no question about where to take him. Sheerice in sales was also a big asset to us. She shared a lot of information about putting my mother in an apartment. Good group of employees!!!!

I have never in my life seen such horrible care as Steve is getting at Foxwood Springs in Raymore. The nurse practitioner came by this morning and I showed him that Steves right leg is swollen, he said he would have them put compression socks on him, that was before noon today. Then they forgot his meal again this evening, he finally got someone about it, and the kitchen was closed so one of the aids had her boyfriend go get a couple of cheeseburgers. Steve is diabetic, he finally ate at 815. After Steve had been there two days I asked the nurse about his blood sugar, she said well I can check it now , it had not been done yet. Twice I had to get assertive so he could get his showers. He asked the nurse this evening about the socks, they dsid they didnt lnow anything about it. So he went back to the nurses station to show them his leg, now they are finally putting the socks on. Now I’m sure they are billing Medicare for his care, who should I contact, I’ve already talked to the social worker. I am livid about this!!!!!! Well Steve was supposed to have his follow up appointment with his orthopedic surgeon, they asked him several times if I would be able to go, he let them know that I could not, as I am limited on how far I can walk. His ride showed up today and of course they did not have anyone scheduled today go with him. So it was canceled. This was a very important appointment. !!!!

My mother has been there for two years and - well - there’s a lot of reasons I wouldn’t recommend it. You’d think for $5,500 a month the care would be a bit better. Recently she had a uti. They took urine and then treatment didn’t start until 8 days later. They miss many of her breathing treatments every week. She had a job for over 50 years where she inhaled things that damaged her lungs. If she misses a treatment she begins coughing badly for hours at a time. Of course there was the time they put wax dissolver in her eye instead of her ear. That eye hasn’t been the same since. And just today, her kidneys hurt and she’s going to the bathroom every 10 minutes. When she asked for a test the caretaker was very dismissive. And I quote: “every time we give you a test it comes up negative.” Yeah, except last time it didn’t. And then they waited for over a week to start her treatment. It’s not like they’re paying for it either. All these meds are paid for by her. Then there are the small things. In case you don’t know, old people are creatures of habit. Changes to the routine really mess with them. But staff will regularly move people to different places during dinner, which causes a tremendous amount of stress. It’s a small thing, I know, but I’ve watched these old women get very upset for days over this kind of thing. And then when they say something about it they get told “you have to sit here now.” Again, a small thing. But when your time on this planet is limited, it’s nice to be able to sit with your friends. The food isn’t great either. Many times I’ve watched my mom and her friends just not eat. It’s because the food - even vegetables - are so tough they can’t chew it. So they just don’t eat. Finally, they need to screen staff better. There are some wonderful people there. But then there are some really awful ones. They won’t speak to residents, they are very rough with people, and they ignore request for help. I’d move my mom in a heartbeat but there has been such upheaval in her life the last two years that it would just destroy her. My recommendation is to look elsewhere. Someplace where people do the job because they care. And won’t leave an old woman suffering with a uti for more than a week.

I have recently assisted with helping two couples make the move to Foxwood Springs. It was a perfect place as each spouse needed a different level of care. These new residents are very happy and one even told me he wish he had moved there years ago!
