What Parents Say
Caterpillar Development Center receives mixed reviews with significant polarization. Positive reviewers praise knowledgeable staff, caring teachers, the Brightwheel app for transparency, and strong child development. Negative reviewers report serious concerns including inadequate care for neurodivergent children, poor communication, health/safety issues, food allergy mishandling, and lack of educational curriculum.
If you have a neurodivergent child this is not the daycare for you. There idea of time out is belting your child in a high chair. If your child won’t nap for 2 hours which is crazy at 4 years old they are wrong. You expect a child you just let run rampant to instantly calm down when they are overstimulated. They are overcrowded in there small classroom settings with typically one teacher because that’s all the state requires. Not what’s in the best interest of the kids. I think I spent more money for my child to be home with me than he was in the daycare his last year. I was advised multiple times to just give my kid coffee before bringing him by staff.
We visited other daycare places and this is the one we chose. I have zero regrets. Our child was about 6 months old when we started and we’ve been there a year. The teachers and staff are knowledgeable and caring. They give me honest feedback about my child’s development. The Brightwheel app is a fabulous tool. I can see what my child has done, been fed, and how often diapers were changed. I get photo updates as well. Quick response messaging is also nice. My baby loves her teachers and lights up when she gets to see the other babies/kids. We drive out of our way to attend this facility and recommend it to anyone who is looking for a realistic, positive experience.
Do not recommend this daycare. My kids were involved in incident reports every single day and sent home once a week with “fevers” because they did not want to deal with them. No proof, no pictures of the thermometers, nothing. Barely updated bright wheel and communication was non existent. The teacher called my child “abusive” and thought I’d let It slide. Had a meeting with the director to which I was talked over every single opportunity and was told what she thought I wanted to hear. The teacher then refused to speak to me at pick ups and acknowledge my presence. There was several croup outbreaks and sickness from lack of cleaning on their end. A steam mops doesn’t disinfect. If you want a daycare that provides an actual curriculum, teaches your children, and is thorough in communication, look else where. After we were allegedly dropped from bright wheel and did not have auto pay scheduled, a week of daycare was taken from my account. The sister center in woolmarket also has an investigation as well.
I was very worried about sending my baby to daycare. The people here made all of my worries go away. They do a good job of caring for the parents AND the child! Communication is easy, they have an app that is updated regularly with frequency of diaper changes, meals, snacks, and photos of my child. More importantly, my child is thriving at Caterpillar. Highly recommend this daycare!
Most of the workers, with the exception of Kayla or Jen seem annoyed, or like they are being inconvenienced when you ask about how the child’s days have gone. They also left our infant in a bouncer for hours each day, which contributed to them being seriously delayed with milestones in walking and mobility. When this was brought up they tried justifying by saying core strength is always being built while in bouncers. Yeah thanks lady. We also had our child fed food he was allergic to on more than one occasion. Resulting in us having to worry almost daily if our child was being fed something which would result in him being sent to the ER. This was also even after explaining in detail what he could or couldn’t eat. Common sense practices are thing of mystery here, like wiping down mats and floors with cleaning wipes or bleach, then letting infants crawl right through it. Also the director making someone get a COVID test for simply wearing a mask and following CDC guidelines during the height of the pandemic shows a serious lack of experience and competence in this place. In just two weeks of our kids going to a new learning center they have brought home more arts and crafts in over a YEAR of being at this caterpillar. This place also has a pending lawsuit so If you want kids to learn and not just be stuck in front of Cocomelon for eight hours each day I would highly not recommend this daycare.
