What Parents Say
Calvary Little Friends School in Tuscaloosa has experienced significant decline and operational challenges. While some parents praised dedicated teachers and a new director's efforts, multiple recent reviews report serious concerns including staff turnover, administrative failures, safety incidents, DHR probation status, classroom closures with minimal notice, and unresponsive management. The facility is reportedly closing permanently.
-5 stars. Do not recommend. We attended here for 2 1/2 years for both kids and it has completely gone downhill. Lack of communication. Teachers are over worked and underpaid. Staff is forever changing. While attending one of my children was having a cardiac episode (very lethargic, rapid heart rate that you could see through their clothes and shallow breathing) and no one called. They "lost" a dechoking device after having it for a couple of weeks. Still no resolution on how that can be replaced. My child would come home several times with bite marks that would take a week to heal from bruising, yet the poor teachers are left with no help from upper management to resolve this issue. I have tried to reach out twice to receive a refund that has been in my account since July, still with no response. They are no longer DHR affiliated due to being on probation and it being advised by DHR...I could go on but I will stop there. The only good teachers there are Denise, Kyla, Vicki & Rita. EDITED AFTER RESPONSE BELOW- I am fully aware of the new director. She was the one that was not sympathetic to any of my situations I explained to her above. NO ONE from this establishment has called my phone in regards to my account. I have even emailed the new director and the board for the church with yet a response. PLEASE DO NOT SEND YOUR KIDS HERE. They will lie to make themselves look good.
My son was attending Calvary little friends from December 10 2022- September 9. This week as been a roller coast for my family and I . The experience I had as a parent has been awful . However the staff are warm welcoming but the director is not friendly or a people person at all (to some but not all ) . My child was dismissed from the school on September 9 . On September 7 my child came home with a letter attached to his daily sheet about his classroom was prematurely closing due to staff shortage and the letter also stated that his last day will be Friday September 9 . However; the short notice hit us hard .. I could you close a classroom in three days to leave the parents to have to make a tough decision in finding good care for my child and others .. talking with other parents that was not the case the director (Casey) had her picks and choose on who stayed and who left but how can you accommodate some but not all .. seem like a favoritism thing to me !!! I had a meeting with the director and she just seem so nonchalant.. so my question do you really love kids or do you have your favorite or you showing signing of being racist. My opinion if they done change directors fast it will be alot of other issues if not already.. this is ridiculous even on a job you give a two week notice .. how can you dismiss some kids but not all kids in a three day period!!!!! This is mind blowing and awful. I will not recommend!!! Unreasonable!!!! How are you representing this church and you dont show the love of God
When my son was going here years ago it was an awesome school the new director is HORRIBLE!! My nephew goes here now and they closed there class with only a 2 day notice. They let some kids stay they are upfront racist and the new director is horrible she does not care about the kids they cannot keep any staff and I would not recommend. How do u close a class room down in the middle of the school year and decide who stays and who goes with no explanation.
LFS has made a big impact on my two children. We are so thankful for their teacher’s dedication to a fun and safe learning environment. The new director has not been there a full year and she has made wonderful progress for the atmosphere of LFS. She knows every child and family that comes through the door. I pray for the best for LFS.
Would give zero stars if I could! Calvary Little Friends School used to be among the best in the area, but over the past few years has quickly become one of the worst! Here are some things that have happened over the past 2 years that were reported by DHR, as they are no longer affiliated with them due to being put on probation, PROBABLY because of the following: "Video Footage verifies that on 09/21/2022, a staff member used inappropriate discipline in the 2 and a half and up classroom" " Physical activity/ outdoor play is being taken away as a form of punishment" "Center failed to notify the department in a timely manner of an incident in which the health, welfare, and safety of a child was at risk" They have a new director now, and hopefully are doing better, for the staff and children's sake. Like I said, it used to be a good place, where children learned, and hopefully one day can go back to that!
