Honestly, if i could give zero stars i absolutely would have, but the teacher that my daughter was placed with (Ms.Music) is the only reason they’re getting these two measly stars. With that being said i’d like to start off by giving Ms. Music her flowers, if it wasn’t for her i wouldn’t have felt right leaving my daughter there every day to fend for herself. My daughter has nonverbal autism and though she doesn’t really require an extensive amount of attention but she needs someone who she feels she can trust and support her seeing as how she doesn’t talk, Ms.Music was definitely that person and i appreciate her so much for that. she made me feel seen and i felt that she could really see how smart my daughter is because she really made it her business to understand her. now moving forward…from orientation and going forward i should have known that Bussey was a sinking ship. The two women who conducted orientation were clearly at odds and getting frustrated with each other in front of the parents. They weren’t prepared and forgot to give me and other parents important forms to fill out. The applications that they required me to fill out online, they could never find. it was just a mess all in all. then when i went to explain to Ms.Porter that my daughter was nonverbal she proceeded to tell me that they didn’t have speech services in the school. it wasn’t until she basically seen me in a pool of tears that she told me that i “had nothing to worry about” and that “were going to make sure she gets all the help that she needed” yeahhhh RIGHT. FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL -Emergency card (that i filled out at orientation) was lost, had to fill out a new one. - i was trying my hardest to get my daughter in the little steps program (special education class) but they were making me jump through so many hoops. even with me doing everything they told me and following up almost daily for the first two weeks of school, it still was no sense of urgency when it came to me and the concerns i had for my daughter. they didn’t start to take me serious until i got my mom involved. which is sad because i wholeheartedly believe that they didn’t take me serious as a young, black mom and they’re entire administration were mostly black women 🤨. ironically once my mom got involved they started to pick up the pace somewhat but by that point i was already over them and that school. shortly after i decided that living in southfield was clearly not agreeing with us and i made plans for us to move back downtown. i pulled her out as of 10/27 and she’ll be going to a school where they are already prepared to give her everything she needs and then some. i hope this helps.

I enjoyed my son going to Bussey center, Ms. Moore is such an amazing teacher. She helped my son talk and express his feelings. He went from not talking to holding conversations and asking questions. Thank you so much for helping my son.

Oakland County’s GSRP program did an amazing job with listening and providing the resources we needed for our child. We were referred to Bussey for additional services (Speech Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Social Work) from our child’s previous Montessori (thank you!) The growth we have seen in our child due to Bussey’s in house services, curriculum, attention to detail, patience and resilience, has been truly a heartwarming experience. The amount of resources and events tailored towards parental engagement makes a huge impact on the well being of our child. His transition has also helped our family prepare for the rest of our child’s academic journey. As first time parents, we are pleased with the care, accommodations and never ending support that we receive from the moment our little one arrives at Bussey. ❤️ As we navigate towards our next transition, we want to say a very HUGE thank you to Southfield Public School District, Oakland County and the GSRP program for contributing to our child’s academic success. “Oh the places you’ll go!”- Dr. Seuss

Very unprofessional. Very inconsiderate. Very inconsistent. Very nonchalant. I have been waiting on a call back from the staff for 2 weeks. When I initially spoke to someone, they were talking to me and kept asking me the same questions as if they weren’t fully involved in the conversation, very tacky. I am so glad they decided to show this side of things before completing the enrollment process for my daughter because I’ll be damned I send her to a school that can’t even do the bare minimum as pick up the phone. No one is that busy!
