Building Block Preschool

I am so grateful to have Ms. Ann teach both of my kids. She is loving and caring, really paying attention to each of my kid's personality. They had a good balance of learning, being creative with crafts, and having playtime. When they left Building Block to go to kindergarten, both kids were reading beyond 1st grade level and were able to do addition and subtraction. She established a great foundation for both of my kids. The kids are still excited to see Ms. Ann when given the opportunity now that they have graduated from Building Block. I would recommend Building Block to anyone and have already!

Building Block Preschool in San Jose is a hidden gem! My toddler has been here over 2 years and Mrs. Ann Yao and her amazing staff are truly the best. Mrs. Ann is so loving and caring, and she balances learning, crafts, and playtime beautifully. The kids are not only happy but also start reading and even doing simple math. Building Blocks Preschool is an absolute gem! We’ve had both of our daughters attend (now 6 and 2 years old), and we couldn’t be happier with the experience. Ms. Ann and all the teachers are truly wonderful—warm, caring, and deeply invested in the kids’ growth and happiness. The environment is not only fun and nurturing, but also academically strong. Thanks to Ms. Ann, our oldest learned to read and do math before starting kindergarten—she was well ahead of the curve when she started school. And now our youngest is following right in her footsteps! As working parents, we also really appreciate the practical things that make a big difference—like the fact that they provide lunch and snacks, and they’re open until 6pm. That flexibility has been a lifesaver for our family. We are so truly grateful to have found Building Blocks. It’s a fantastic school, and we can’t recommend it highly enough!

I could not be happier with my choice to enroll both of my children at Building Block throughout the past 3 years! As an educator myself, I was very picky. I wanted the feel of a smaller center, with more individualized academic care, but with a balance of play-based learning as well. I was referred by two of my other teacher friends whose opinions I highly trust and am thankful everyday for their recommendation. Mrs. Ann and every teacher on her team have been wonderful since day one. They take great care for our little ones, teach them kindness and how to interact well with peers of their age. They provide advanced educational practices and the children are well-prepared to enter the school system ahead of most when they go to TK or Kinder. I am comfortable leaving my children with them everyday and would trust each of the 5 teachers to watch my kids privately if needed as well. As a parent and a teacher, I cannot recommend Building Block enough! They are fantastic.

Building Block Pre-school is a hidden gem and I'm fortunate to have my children enrolled there. In late 2022, we checked out a handful of preschools(including bilingual/Mandarin) and as soon as we toured here, we felt we found the right place. Mrs. Ann's background in early childhood education shines through in the teaching methods of the school. Our kids were potty trained, taught how to socialize, take turns, clean up, and even basic math and reading. We've been so happy there that we decided to keep our eldest there instead of enrolling in TK. Our eldest has started Kinder in the fall and while speaking with other parents, I've since found out that there are quite a few children that struggle with literacy. We're so glad that Mrs. Ann's emphasis on phonics have our children well prepared for learning to read and write. I really appreciate the all that Mrs. Ann and her team do to teach and guide these children. As of 10/16/25, the website is incorrect. She'll accept children at 2 years old. Mrs. Ann and a couple of native Chinese speaking teachers are able to practice Chinese with our kids and which was enough for us. More reviews on Yelp
