The Bethlehem United Methodist Child Development Center in Claremont, NC has closed as of August 4, 2024. Prior to closure, parents praised the director and staff for warm, loving care. However, the sudden shutdown with minimal notice has generated significant parent frustration, with complaints about the church board's handling of the closure, lack of communication, and impact on 64 families and 19 staff members.
My son was attending the CDC. A place we loved. The staff and director were incredible and took wonderful care of my son and the other children who attended. On July 31, 2024, the new pastor and board members wanted the director of the CDC to email 64 families informing them the CDC would be closing effective 9/27. The director said no the families deserve to be told face to face. Because the director had the decency of meeting with families face to face to break the news, the pastor and board said she was insubordinate and fired her. The pastor and board then decided to close the CDC down effective yesterday August 4, 2024, stating the children who attend were unsafe due to state violations that were cited the week prior. The violations are public record and were paperwork related. Had nothing to do with child safety. The pastor/board members have been out to get the CDC shut down and used the violations as their reasoning. Now 64 families and 19 staff members must find alternative care and jobs. When we were originally given a deadline, and then they close the center on a Sunday with no warning. They treated the parents like criminals by having law enforcement stand by while we gathered our children’s belongings. This is supposed to be a Christian facility and the pastor and board are anything but Christian. I know Jesus is disappointed in the actions of these individuals. People are leaving the church too, I wonder why. I am sickened by the actions of the pastor and board members. I would never recommend this church to anyone. Be aware!!!
I am so disheartened that the church would turn their backs on the little children’s and families and close the daycare with no notice. These families have jobs and can’t find somewhere to send their children today. The children should always be welcomed to the church and not turned away as you have done to many families as of today. I pray there is some refocus and new leadership to get the priorities straight and back on families and children.
It’s such a shame what this church has done to their daycare! Closing it down today at 4:30. Leaving staff without jobs and Leaving these children without care and putting parents in a hard spot!!! This church should be ashamed. There is alot more to the story! No wonder this church is losing members left and right. Jesus will judge the pastor and church board one day!
Supposed to be a Christian church but the committee wants to blame the director and trying to find flaws within the daycare and to shut down . Our son alone had been went through hell and back from the previous day care and finally found a good one that respects our son , taught our son a lot, and you have a guy on the committee that loves to take pictures of little kids play in a role of shutting down our loved daycare. Without preparation after being told it wasn’t until September. Now you own the 64 if not more kids parents including me our money back yall done spent. You have until Friday or a lawsuit will be filed.
The board of this Church just shut down their CDC with zero warning. This leaves so many families including mine with no plan for childcare. Great job at helping the community church! I'm sure Jesus is so proud.
