I have mixed feelings about alta headstart. My son attended last year and they were wonderful with him. I couldn't say enough great things about this early learning program. This year, with an autism diagnosis, it's been so hard getting him what he needs. Someone is always dropping the ball. His autism diagnosis wasn't added to his file, the therapy company they use let me child go months without services instead of asking me to call the Dr for referrals for services (this took me one day) , thenmy son was put on the the exclusion list because his pediatrician sent in a physical with the incorrect date of his last physical (making it look like he hadn't seen a Dr in over a year when he had) not all of this is alta but they definitely did not aid in making the situation any better.
Great school, education, staff, and teachers. Healthy lunch options. Overall great experience! These people really care about many aspects of your childrens development and monitor your child on various levels. They also communicate very well with parents on what we can do at home to continue helping and encouraging our children to grow psychologically, emotionally, physically, and academically. Great wrap around support for my children.
My son seems to have a great time and everything. I just feel, as a working parent, that they tend to give a lot of work for the parents to do each week. I'm not against doing activities with my kids but it's just too much when they're sending home homework for the kids and the parents. Its just too much pressure on hard working parents because we already have enough to worry about like putting food on the table, doctors appts, a roof over our heads, etc.. And I'm sure I don't have to tell anyone readying this how hard it actually is to do all of that, now the teachers at head start wanna give us assignments each week along with projects that the children have to do (but which are too difficult anyways for a 3 year old so we have to do most of it anyways while he helps a little. I already went to school and graduated. I don't want to do it again. I will gladly help my kids with their homework but they shouldn't give specific assignments for the parents to do each week. Plus, he's 3! He just wants to play with his friends and enjoy life! This should be more like a daycare and less like a school cause that's all it really is. School starts at kindergarten, anything before that is just daycare! Geez! These kids won't remember much from now anyways.
