I never understood these programs that is set out to help people but never help. Adopted family is one of them, a prime example. Everytime I call one person tell you one thing and another person tells you another. These programs is put out to help people in need and they do the opposite. You got people working in these facilities who act like the money comes out of thier personal pockets. I was told to call on the 6th of January because that’s when they will be taking application. I called none stop from 9am and when I finally received a call back someone was retuning the call that I made the day before smh. I told her that I was calling since 9am and no one answered the phone. She informed me that they are out of funds and to try again Monday. It’s like In order to get help they want to see you sleeping under the bridge, but you also have to be living inside a condo.. confused right? like you being under the bridge is not enough it’s a game at this point. I expressed my issues regarding this situation and I’m always being told different things by multiple people. When I expressed my concerns she chuckled and said she don’t work there so she don’t know she’s reading off a paper that they give them. Needless to say if you are trying to seek help from this organization just get your pillow and blanket ready because you will be out on the streets with your kids thinking you are going to get help. These people can careless as long as they have a home to go to they could careless. It’s people like them that makes life hard when being helpful is free. they working in these people facilities making it hard for others when it’s their job is to help. Everyone can’t be helped I understand that, but it’s the carelessness and the lack of care for others in the time of need is distasteful. I have not called yet and talked to anyone with a ounce of compassion for others. These people action speaks volumes for this program it’s says a lot.

Myself and my 3 kids had been with Adopt a family housing agency for almost 8 years, and while I’m truly grateful for the stability and support they provided, my experience has been very mixed. The Adopt a Family program it self was absolutely amazing they always went above and beyond to help me and my children during the holidays. Miss Miriam and Miss Ray , in particular, was a blessing. She was kind, supportive, and always showed genuine care for families in need. For that, I will always be thankful. However, living in the apartments often felt like being a prisoner in my own home. The environment was extremely uncomfortable due to hostile neighbors who constantly watched us through cameras pointed at my house. Always complaining about anything that my children did outside. One of the property managers were my neighbor , And her best friend was one of the tenants. My kids couldn’t even play outside because of constant complaints and video surveillance. Despite reporting these issues to the front office many times over the years, nothing was ever done to resolve the situation. I’ve been moved out of the units now for four months, And by the grace of God, I live in a beautiful peaceful happy neighborhood. Unfortunately, I am literally still suffering from PTSD from not being used to being outside for the last 8 years because crabby neighbors. I appreciate the assistance the program provided, but I wish more had been done to ensure tenants felt safe, respected, and truly at home. I hope this review is not taken the wrong way again Adopt a family was an absolutely amazing program and extended so much grace on myself and my family. But when tenants are complaining about neighbors, it should be Taken seriously.

I went for assistance and after the "interview" was informed there is a 3 month required program. I understand they need to protect the interest of the business so going along to see how it pans out.

When I first came to Adopt-A-Family, I was in a desperate situation, and they gave me something I hadn’t had in a while: hope. I was thankful just to have someone respond and offer assistance. But getting that initial help was like pulling teeth. I had to go through multiple people and fight just to be seen and unfortunately, things only got worse from there. The support I’ve received throughout this process has been disorganized, unclear, and frankly subpar. I was never given a clear explanation of what the program actually offers, how long it lasts, or what steps are involved. Communication is a nightmare. You’re left in the dark with no accountability, no follow-up, and no compassion. It’s a system with no structure. Every single caseworker from regular staff to management, housing, and rehousing has either been unresponsive, dismissive, or completely uninterested in resolving serious issues. I was placed in substandard housing with health hazards like roaches, bedbugs, and unsafe conditions in high-crime areas. The hotels and properties they work with are bottom-of-the-barrel one-star and two-star locations that no one should be expected to live in, let alone raise a family. If you try to advocate for yourself or report a problem, you’re made to feel like a burden or like you should just be grateful. You’re treated like you’re less than. That’s the part that hurts most. Now I’m living in a property where there’s no way a proper inspection was done. My current caseworker has ignored every concern I’ve raised. It feels like people are turning a blind eye or worse, that something shady is going on behind the scenes. I was always told “they’re overworked and underpaid,” but that’s not an excuse. I’ve been overworked and underpaid too, and I still showed up and did my job with integrity. For the last three weeks, I’ve reached out to over six people by phone and email not one has responded. If you can’t help, just say that. But ignoring people while they’re dealing with real problems is unacceptable. This experience has shown me that accountability is lacking, and if internal leadership won’t address it, I’m prepared to take further steps. There are oversight agencies in place for a reason. I didn’t want to reach this point, but silence will not make these issues go away. Adopt-A-Family needs to do better. We are real families, not just case numbers and we deserve to be treated with basic respect, transparency, and dignity.
