Today left me gutted as a mother and human...and worried about the future care for other families with special needs children at TECEC. Families entrust schools to act with honesty, integrity, and accountability. I will make sure that everyone is aware of my experience, as it is my right to protect my child and others. Today, I attended a meeting regarding my child’s transportation services that left me deeply concerned not just for my child but for other children with special needs. Principal Wheeler blatantly lied about having discussed transportation with our family during our last PPT, despite confirmation from others present including my son's BCBA and my husband. I was shocked, not for myself but saddened for my son. I could not believe what I was hearing. As a result, critical decisions about my child’s transportation have been deferred to staff unfamiliar with his needs, putting my son’s safety at risk. I will not rest until all parents understand the importance of advocating for their children and are aware of these concerning practices and learn about this experience and others here. We will be taking a stand. Families in our community deserve better. We will make sure that all families understand the importance of having their voices heard, because silence allows these practices to continue. We call for transparency, accountability, and meaningful change to ensure that no child is ever placed at risk because of dishonesty or neglect in the special education process.
