I am very grateful for the this shelter. During a very difficult time in my life, this place has provided me with safety, stability, and support when I needed it most. The staff are caring, respectful, and genuinely want to help residents move forward. They take the time to listen, offer guidance, and connect families with helpful resources. The shelter provides a structured environment that helps with daily routines, accountability, and personal growth. I appreciate the support services offered, especially those focused on housing, transportation, and meeting children’s needs. Knowing that my children and I have a safe place to stay has reduced so much stress and allowed me to focus on rebuilding our lives. This shelter is more than just a place to sleep — it is a stepping stone toward stability and independence. I am truly thankful for the compassion, patience, and encouragement shown here, and I would recommend this shelter to anyone in need of support during a challenging time. Emily, Susie, Clair, Molly, Sophie, Madea, Tabatha and the childcare workers Elyssa And Alissa are awesome Staff and I appreciate them!
I just want to give a shout out to the YWCA!! I personally can see the growth and strength this facility has made recently. I have seen major changes to the facility and very expensive renovations so that every room can have a room is equipped with top of the line temperature control. This project was very extensive especially while housing families at the same time. My daughter has a disability and has a emotional support animal and they were there for her needs with no problem. The support you receive here is unmatched. As a client of YWCA I can personally say that am not only am I grateful but lucky to be a part of this facility and also have them be a part of my growth. The levels of staff and administration down to the handy man all work together for the same goal and that is the happiness and safety of their clients. My experience has been positive in every aspect from case management to childcare to the admins. to volunteers. I am proud to be a participant of the YWCA. I WANT TO mention a few names that helped me become successful and make my stay remarkable ...OLIVIA, MOLLY, SOPHIE, CLAIR, DORCY, BARRY, both ALYSSA'S AND LAST BUT Definitely NOT LEAST MORGAN. THANK YOU FOR TAKING THOSE EXTRA STEPS TO MAKE MY FAMILY FEEL LOVED.YOU ALL TOOK EXTRA TIME FOR ME AT ONE POINT OR ANOTHER WHEN I NEEDED IT THE MOST AND MADE A DIFFERENCE IN OUR LIVES !! THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF OUR 💕 HEARTS!! A+G#218
It's a shelter yes but more over i felt like I was in a juvenile detention center. Empowering women? Ya righ,t i left because sleeping in my broke down car in the county was better for my mental health. Never being in a big city and having no money or transportation (could not figure out the buses asked for help) I felt trapped and judged. 10 out of 10 DO NOT RECOMMEND other thab maybe a night or 2.
After being told by the Sheriff's Department to 'Move on' from sleeping overnight in my car at the Moorhead Rest Area until I have enough money (about 4 weeks) for a home... I reluctantly let go of my pride in order to seek help from a shelter. (I have never asked for community help or their involvement before this current, trying and dangerous life-circumstance.) After filling out the information on their website to get on a bed waitlist... They sent one form to my email address to be filled out. That was almost two weeks ago. I had not heard back. I resent the form and... I still have not heard back. Wow... The 'Emergency' shelter does not consider sleeping in a car on a city street an emergency? What is the 'real' emergency? Being found dead? This is WHY I have not reached out for help in the past and will never reach out to a 'shelter' again in the future. I would encourage Fargo to investigate what this facility is really doing for women who need help. Shame on you, YMCA staff. Sleep well in your beds in your homes tonight...
I am writing to express my deep disappointment with recent events that have come to my attention. As a long-time donor who has contributed substantial amounts to support your mission, I was disturbed to hear about the treatment of a homeless mother seeking shelter at your facility. This morning, an Uber driver shared a troubling story with me. He mentioned that a homeless mother sought refuge at your location but was turned away due to a lack of available beds. The driver ended up taking her back to the station where he had picked her up. Fortunately, a female police officer stepped in and arranged for the mother to stay in a motel. Concerned by this, I visited the station to verify the story, and I was told that mothers and children are frequently turned away by your organization. This is incredibly disheartening, especially considering the donations that are meant to ensure that vulnerable families receive the help they need. Can someone please explain what is happening? We donate to support your work with families in need, and I believe we deserve clarity on this matter.
