What Parents Say
Youth Enrichment Services receives overwhelmingly positive feedback from most parents who praise the friendly staff, engaging activities, and quality care provided at their summer camps and after-school programs. However, one parent reported a serious incident involving a staff member taking their 5-year-old's shoe as collateral for a pencil, citing poor communication, understaffing, and disorganization as concerns.
The program at YES Summer Camp is excellent! Having attended for several years, my daughter finds enjoyment in her interactions with the counselors and being able to play with other kids her age. I enjoy learning about her everyday routine and the enjoyable outings she goes on. Every day, the camp offers the children healthy options for breakfast, and lunch, along with snacks. We are grateful to the outstanding leadership team of Ms. Rhonda, Mr. Will, and Ms. Veronica, who collaborate with their team to make sure our kids have a fantastic summer. See you next summer!
My children have attended this camp 2years in a row and they absolutely loves it! They will be attending YES again next year. The staff is so friendly they all know my children by names. They make my sons feel like they are with family and I know they are in good care while I am at work. There have sports like soccer outdoor daily (which my children adores) and other activities kids can enjoy. Children had a few trips during the summer (fishing trip, bowling trip, spray park trip etc). I would recommend YES CAMP to anyone who wants their child(ren) to have amazing memories about summer.
My son Jackson just turned 6 when he started at the YES summer program. EVERY SINGLE employee that I came across at the West Islip location treated my son like their own. He had trouble separating from me at drop off and would often cry in the beginning. The admin at sign in would help us feel comfortable and would reassure him in the morning and throughout the day. Jackson would come home smiling and happy every day and was happy to go to camp. They provided lunch daily, had a video game truck, took kids bowling, to the water park…all around awesome experiences. They are flexible with their hours, affordable and just overall a positive place for children. Thank you YES and all YES employees, admins, counselors for your kindness and for caring for Jackson!!
Very nice summer camp!! My son attended this camp this year and from the first day they made him feel really good. The people at the main gate are very friendly both at the entrance and at the afternoon crew. An extra thank you to Veronica the coordinator, she is a delight. Thank you all.
I pulled my daughter out of this program when she was forced to give up 1 of her shoes as collateral for needing a pencil. (Mind you there was a pencil in her bag the whole time) At the age of 5, she naturally thought she was being punished. She sat down, did her homework then started crying because she needed to use the bathroom but knew she couldn't go barefoot. I was livid when I found out. How dare you take of any article of clothing from my child? Not only is that unacceptable it's unsafe. What if she fell? They are opening themselves up to lawsuits. "We try to instill responsibilities." I was told by a worker. I said that's unacceptable! She's 5! And why was I never notified of such a rule?! I would've brought 100 pencils! I spoke with Ms. J who simply confirmed that she made the rule. Saying "maybe your daughter forgot but that's been a rule". I proceeded to say that's a stupid rule and if teachers can't do that why can you? Why was I never notified?! No response to that other than she's sorry my daughter got so upset! I went a step further by asking for a refund and explaining what happened to the program director. I will say they called me right back! Apologized... said that's not how they do things and that they are handling it internally. I decided to stop here because I did a bunch of research before I sent my daughter here so I see how much they do for my community. However, I was told they are still doing this to kids. Until I know otherwise, I feel it my duty to let parents know...try harder to find a better program! I even had a teacher tell me "yeah, they're not that nice to the kids". I know the school promotes YES but it's overpopulated. (Finding out the officials at the school work with/for YES) They do not have enough staff for all the kids they have. I even walked out with my daughter (1st time picking her up after school) without signing a thing. Very disorganized, the day of registration should have been an indication for me but I thought of it as a busy time so I ignored the signs. Let me help you: try LEAP...they only have after school in CI but the kid to adult ratio is 8:1
