I stayed at the YWCA maybe about 10 years ago. What a good place to get on your feet. If you mind your own business you won't have a hard time there...
While my daughter was a resident there, she became very ill due to the filthy living conditions She needed to be hospitalized. Though I was my daughters emergency contact, I was never notified. While in the hospital, the staff threw out all her possessions. Including a metal lockbox with all her personal important documents. I rate it a minus 10
Someone I love had to go there for emergency shelter, it was a nightmare. She was not treated well at all and it was very dangerous for her to be there... And that was because of the staff, I can't even blame the other people who are there... They have changed over the years, it's supposed to be an emergency shelter but there's no time limit anymore so people go in there and just languish for months they're not encouraged to get a job and find a place to live and they're perfectly happy with just crashing on a cot in the shelter because a lot of these people are addicts. It's not the outreach program it once was, at all. It's definitely changed throughout the years, and I'm sorry to say, not for the better.
There’s roaches. No one will acknowledge it, they say it’s a different bug. Staff is unprofessional and often seem bothered to answer a question because thereyre on their phone and are busy. This place needs to be reported to the health department. I’d rather sleep on the streets
If homeless and absolutely in need.. then go for it. They do what they can which isn't much but better than nothing. Being a transwoman and not have any discriminatory issues at all was a nice change of pace for me.
