12/6/25 I was told to have a talk with Chris Harvey (another coach) about an issue. I walked in the office to sit down and that’s when I was sucker punched! Since they called the police, I decided to follow through with it because I wasn’t going to get them involved! But since they did, I decided to press charges for being “set up” Rashid (coach gray) Gray blamed me for going to talk w/o him present but I was walked in there by another staff member! Mike Carter (director) is refusing to turn over the tape from that day. The police told me that “if it was the other way around they would’ve been gave me that tape” they must know they was wrong and about to face legal charges. They know how they handled that dispute was wrong. Atleast 1-2 other ppl are supposed to sit in just in case something like that happens, to make sure words don’t get mixed up and to make sure it’s not one sided. They failed to keep everyone safe and created an unsafe environment and was negligent! I have two years to file charges! Just waiting on the video. My attorney says it’s not an issue because we can subpoena for the tape and everyone involved but we just want them to submit it on there free will if it’s nothing to hide! Since I’m here, I don’t recall the last time we got our Cavs tickets! Every Jr Cavs program gives vouchers for two tickets. With our fees, a percentage goes back to the Cavs in return we use the Cavs logo and get 2 Cavs tickets OR 4 Charge tickets. I’ve been there 2 years and don’t recall any tickets. The program I was in before Warrensville Y gave us our tickets and the league my son is in now gave us tickets. Overall, this place is ok until it’s not! They let ppl do what they want, nobody held accountable, Gray smoking cigarettes in the doorway giving everyone second hand smoke! Get done working out and have to walk through that! You have some nice ppl there! Rouse, the Thompson’s, the front desk but other than that👎🏾 They can keep denying the detective the tape… I got 2 years!! Family center that’s build on trust and everything good is refusing to clear their name. Once I get the news involved and everything… it’s gone be a different toon! Every text and phone call I received since that day has been saved! Suing the Y for negligence and failing to protect me knowing there was a conflict! Walked me right into an office to be attacked and pressing charges on Coach Chris Harvey for assault!
Everyone is so friendly and answers any questions that you have. They have a lot to offer. I can take classes, swim, and exercise all at the same place. They are willing to help you out and you make a lot of friends there that share your same interests.
I’m writing this review because I believe the YMCA has an incredible mission—to build strong communities, empower families, and create a safe and welcoming environment for all. Unfortunately, my repeated experiences at the Warrensville Heights Family YMCA have been the exact opposite of that mission. From the moment you walk in, the energy does not feel welcoming. The front desk staff is often rude or dismissive, which sets a negative tone before you even start your workout. Several employees also seem to take their roles so seriously that it crosses into being unapproachable, making the space feel tense instead of family-friendly. As someone who values the YMCA’s vision of being a positive force for youth, adults, and seniors, it’s discouraging to see such a disconnect between the mission statement and the reality of this location. A family-oriented facility should feel like one—uplifting, supportive, and community-driven. Sadly, that has not been my experience here. Psychology tells us that first impressions create lasting impressions. If the first thing members feel when they walk in is negativity or unfriendliness, it erodes trust and drives people away. A YMCA should be a place where every individual—whether a child, parent, or senior—feels seen, welcomed, and inspired to better themselves. I’m leaving this review not out of anger, but in the hope that leadership takes it seriously. This YMCA has the potential to be a true pillar in the Warrensville community, but that requires employees who embody kindness, empathy, and respect in their daily interactions. Until that happens, the impact of this facility will continue to fall short of what the YMCA represents.
Good afternoon. I recently shared an unpleasant experience, that left me very uncomfortable with youth basketball coach, Coach Rouse. His professionalism and cantor when approaching paying members is unacceptable. His lack of accountability is uncanny. He even said to me in his response to a lack of accountability that, “his athletes lie”. Instead of apologizing for his behavior and addressing the matter at hand as responsible adults, and setting a better example of conflict resolution for the athletes. In order for us to build a better tomorrow we must start with the changes today. Coach Rouse, I hope that moving forward we can have better judgment and not allow personal feelings to interfere with the way we interact with one another.
As a parent and a long-time YMCA member, I am deeply disappointed by the treatment my daughter and I received at the hands of Coach Rouse during recent basketball practice at the [YMCA Warrensville]. I feel compelled to share our experience, as it has left us reconsidering our continued participation in the program and membership. Firstly, I would like to address Coach Rouse's behavior after the practice session. He displayed an unacceptably rude and belligerent attitude towards multiple children, including yelling at them without any apparent reason. This aggressive behavior was entirely inappropriate and uncalled for, especially when dealing with young and impressionable individuals. Additionally, Coach Rouse exhibited favoritism by allowing certain kids to use better equipment during open gym, leaving others feeling left out and discouraged. This preferential treatment not only undermines the morale of the team but also contradicts the values of fairness and equality that should be fostered in a community-centered organization like the YMCA. To make matters worse, Coach Rouse (Maurice) chose to address any issues by yelling at the children, rather than discussing them professionally with the parents. This method was not only uncalled for but also highly inappropriate when handling children who are learning and growing in their athletic journey. Due to this negative experience, I am strongly considering removing my child from the program and canceling our family membership. I believe that the YMCA should hold its staff to a higher standard of professionalism and respect, especially when interacting with young members. I genuinely hope that the management will take this feedback seriously and implement measures to ensure that no other family has to endure such a distressing situation in the future.
