What Parents Say
YMCA St. Anthony's receives mixed reviews. Positive reviewers praise the staff's genuine care, low turnover, flexibility, and cleanliness. Negative reviewers report concerns about staff conduct, management responsiveness to complaints, sanitation practices, and limited outdoor space.
Our daughter started in the YMCA in their newborn room and attended until she was 2. Friendly, Flexible, and Fun Working in daycare is hard and demanding, and most daycare places have a LOT of turnover with their staff. I didn't see much turnover in two years at St. Anthony's. The staff love the kids, treat them like stars, and do amazingly creative things to encourage good behavior. And you know how it works? They're friends. They seem to genuinely love working with each other, and with the kids. The kids feed off that good vibe. They're also very flexible. We never had them say no to an unexpected day. If I was running late, they'd figure out a way to give our daughter an extra snack so she didn't turn into a pumpkin before dinner. Our daughter was almost never sick while attending the Y, and I didn't see many other kids out sick. Maybe she was lucky, maybe she has an otherworldly immune system, but I think mostly they just do a great job of keeping things clean. And I think the thing I loved most was that if I asked for advice (first-time parents), they were always so drama-free and down-to-earth with ideas. I consider the folks as St. Anthony's to be trusted friends, and I send them referrals whenever I can. The daycare at St. Anthony's YMCA is fantastic because the people who work there make it great every day.
My child went to this center and thank goodness we left. Some of the staff is verbally abusive, I have heard teachers threaten children and talk badly about another child who was not my own to me. It makes me wonder what its like when a parent like me is not there! I see staff yell at children in their preschool room, and I am very worried about one of the teachers that is in that classroom, how can she work with children after complaints to their director. She moved the teacher into the preschool room after a complaint in a younger room, this teacher should not work with children. After countless complaints and nothing done I could not risk my child's well being at this place anymore. The director Sheri, acted like I had done something wrong to her when I complained about the way I feel my child had been being treated. I have asked for a dish for my child's breakfast from home and they have been greasy and I have even found cups with milk still in them, it has happened more then once, this center is not clean, and I do not see children washing their hands often or even after they use the bathroom. My only positive part of this center is Ms. Terry, she truly cares about the kids and made us feel like we are family. I fully suggest that you find childcare in another center. Avoid this place.
The outdoor play area is small and cramped: concrete with a few small plastic play structures. Under staffed. Some of the staff projected an attitude that they did not like their job and were unwilling to be flexible. One older teacher needs to retire. The director was great tho.
Great staff!!!! Had both my grand daughters attend preschool & pre-K. Both girls easily transformed into public schoolwith many more abilities then if they had not attended. Sherry, Terry, Mikey & Sarah are awesome, now are like fsmily.
Why is the daycare closed?
