Ymca Sch Age Care - Roosevelt

I am a firm believer that it isn’t the place that makes something great it’s the ppl! As much as I love this location & I really did enjoy this place in the beginning, About 1/4 of the staff actually choose to be friendly. The rest walk around like they own the place and have ABSOLUTELY no problem talking bad about patrons when they’re literally minding their own business. I’ve have been REPEATEDLY ignored when greeting them as I walk by, & by that I mean they’ll look right at you blank faced, hear you, & look straight down at their phone or in the opposite direction. Okay fine maybe they’re shy? So I stopped saying hi to those ppl. Now I get GLARED AT/ side eyed as I’m walking away. Thanks to another patron, I was informed. This was after I already reported another staff member for being borderline aggressive & other ones for this behavior. I’m not sure whyyy it’s progressively getting worse. But it’s starting to seem like me reporting it was just one big joke/ inconvenience to them. It’s very VERY apparent the staff favor certain ppl. If you’re older, generally, you’re in the clear & More than likely will not have an issue with them being rude to your face. But if your younger, they have nooo problem trying to make you feel unwelcome/singled out . I’m someone who try’s to put themselves in others shoes & give them the benefit of the doubt. But this stuff is just completely uncalled for & out of line. Mind you I noticed this behavior towards other patrons long before it started happening to me. My peers will no longer go with me to this location because they’ve also said they have the same experiences. Honestly I don’t know why they treat their place of employment like one big middle school clique….. but I’ve never seen a more disrespectful staff, as a whole, ANYWHERE!

I’ve been a member at this location for 17 years now, and went to daycare at Neenah Menasha YMCA and later chose to workout there as a teenager. The staff at the front desk are very friendly and approachable, as are the lifeguards and housekeeping staff and caregivers. However, in the 14+ workout area, the front desk worker has treated me with nothing with disrespect every time I attend to workout. I’m not sure of his name, but a white male with brown hair and a strong attitude would be my best description. I’m a kind person that has worked in multiple customer service jobs, so I ensure that I treat fellow employees that I interact with, kindly. It all started when I was 14 years old working out with a friend of mine (I’m now 17). This worker had come up to my friend and I, questioned our age and didn’t believe us. This is understandable because this is how regulated facilities operate. I offered my school id but he had rudely said “no I’m not taking fake items today”. So he walked down to the front desk to check our ages, and before he left had said “You either stay here, or run and hope no employee here recognizes you, and never come back.” That was what I had perceived as quite rude. He had came back up, looked at us, went back to his desk, said nothing. However he stared at us for around 5 minutes so we left out of discomfort. I had started working out at home because I felt I was having my body judged there, but kept my membership. I came back about 6 months later when I was 15, and was doing beginner deadlifting alone. He questioned my age again, even though I was 5’9” and around 120. I was very pleasant and thought that he may have forgot, but then he checked and when he found out I was of age, he said nothing. I came back the next week and tried an elliptical that didn’t have any directions, but I thought would be nice to use because I had injured my calf and needed to work on range of motion. The worker had said “that is not how you use the machine, you’re going to break it.” This evoked so much anxiety as he said this in front of the whole cardio/elliptical area where it was busy. He never told/showed me how to do it, just embarrassed me. I understand the importance of treating workout equipment correctly, but I was 15 years old and thought I was doing it correctly. I had come back about 9 months ago as a 16 year, and had a bubblr open beverage with me. He informed me that I wasn’t allowed to have it which I felt so bad because I never would’ve brought it in the first place, but there were 4 other people I had counted with open beverages such as ghost, Celsius and soda, so you could imagine that I felt targeted. I’ve been going when I know he isn’t there to avoid conflict and anxiety/judgement in the gym. This time of day isn’t working for me as well anymore though because I’m a student in high school, so I’m going to after school, with hopes that I’m either not approached, or that I’m approached with respect. I’m hoping that other people have came out about this issue and that conflict has been resolved, however I/my parents are happy to speak with the Human Resources team to resolve this and/or lead to a reeducation training for this individual on how to treat people kindly, and with the YMCA virtues: Respect, Caring, Honesty, Responsibility. Great place to take kids for swimming. The slide hours a minimum its not open much. so plan accordingly. They do have a nice adult only hot tub. The family showers are also great. They have more than the other locations. The some of the life guards are a little much. I get it but I’m the father and within 10 feet of my swimming kids calm down a little.

I come here to play racket ball but last time i got invited to play volleyball with some random girls. the staff is all so great and hospitable.
