I LOVE THE Y! I've been a regular since it opened and have enjoyed classes, laps in the pool, after school program and childcare while I work out. The staff and trainers are all so professional and amazing at what they do. Margarita's classes are my favorite! We are truly lucky to have the YMCA on Martha's Vineyard!
Please, don't employ untrained, emotional, discriminative staff to answer the phone call inquiries. She would not comprehend our inquiries, or, answer the questions but refused to let us talk to other staff at the front desk, or any (duty) managers, but hung up. And, I cannot believe there is no supervising staff or manager, while operating the pool and other activities with lots of senior or junior members, throughout the day, according to this rude front person. The manager does not respond to the calls, either, for over a week. The locker area is filthy as the cleaning crew does not disinfect or wipe down the cabinet doors and it smells foul. However another Gym floor cleaner, a young male, is cleaning the area thoroughly when he can. He should be promoted. Very unprofessional that they don't improve the customer service or take care of the hygiene issue!
I've been coming to this gym on Martha's Vineyard for years and have always loved it. If you use the pool be careful that you use the correct kind of lane depending on what kind of poil exercises you do or you may get yelled at by Bob the senior lifeguard. This particular YMCA has slow, medium and fast lanes. I haven't seen this at any other Y and I have been to many. Bob the lifeguard yelled at me in front of everyone in the pool. Miserable man I tried to be friendly and say hello when I went 2 days prior and didn't get a response. If you're a lifeguard at a YMCA on a very touristy island during the summer you might want to be friendlier Bob. And if you don't like people at a public pool then don't do the job! He demanded that I get out of my lane and move to the slow lane when I only had about 10 minutes left. He admitted to me he was punching out in 5 minutes and planned on returning to using the lane I was in. Also the pool manager (didn't get her name) joined in with him and they both ganged up against me and we're so rude to me. I told the operations manager who was very nice and listened but I have a feeling nothing's going to be done. It's called reverse discrimination. The Y is probably afraid to crack down on the senior lifeguard because he's a senior and they let him do what he wants. He makes his own rules to serve his needs! He wanted me to get out of the pool and review all 20 some-odd rules. Planning on going back again next week and if I am treated the way I was last Thursday, it's hello board of directors I'd like to file a complaint against nasty Bob! Other than that unfortunate encounter it's a beautiful gym and pool!
Great facility been swimming for 7 years one of the best ymcas I have been to
I have been going to the Y for quite some time and every time I have been it has been a flawless experience. The staff are friendly, and the trainers are very helpful and informal. Would totally recommend!
